Prismatic: The Nonesuch
Wild magic. Forbidden love. Secret identities. A character with a secret so big that it changes everything. Anxiety. That's what's holding Nalania back from learning enough about magic to save her little sister from the king. That, and she doesn't know what the hell she's doing. She wants to be a witch-with her whole being-but then the new king interferes. He hates witches and warlocks but hates the lowborn of his kingdom even more. So, he finds the perfect solution to his dirty little lowborn problem: he decrees a curfew for them. He wants them to stay at the very bottom of the social ladder. And as for the witches and warlocks? He punishes them with every inch of the law. Nalania's first reaction is to scream. Her second reaction is to defy it. Of course. By defying the king, she'd not only be sticking it to him, but she could secure a valuable pearl so her family could stop living in squalor. And then she can focus on becoming a proper witch. If only she could get through Cloverbottom, a forest known for housing the darkest creatures in the kingdom. So she ventures into the heart of it, dragging her little sister along with her. They have a split second to make a life-altering decision: die, or murder half of the king's coven in self-defense while trying to get away-by using their family's own brand of wild, ancestral magic. But do they really have a choice? They have to go on the offensive. Now Nalania is living with unbearable guilt for putting her sister in this position. She's sure of it: the king will find out. Can she learn enough magic to save her sister before it's too late?
