Purpose: The purpose is to close the gap in written physical therapy resources on nonclinical course material. This book strives to address the various roles of the physical therapist such as consultant, critical inquirer, patient/client manager, educator, and administrator.
Audience: The audience is entry-level clinicians, although it would be an asset to advanced physical therapy courses in areas of professionalism, ethics, history of the profession, and growth. The book is written by Laura Lee Swisher and Catherine G. Page, both of the University of South Florida who are very knowledgeable in the topics.
Features: The book is divided into three parts with a total of 11 chapters. It begins with a historical perspective and lays the groundwork with an overview of physical therapy as a profession, the historical background, and contemporary issues facing the profession. The second part of the book focuses on the five roles of the physical therapist as described in the guide. These include the physical therapist as a patient/client manager, consultant, critical inquirer, educator, and administrator.
