About the Author

Carol Kim believes books and words have a magical ability to change the world, and she writes for children with the hope of spreading some of that magic. She is the author of the picture book biography, King Sejong Invents an Alphabet as well as more than a dozen fiction and nonfiction books for the educational market. Ahya was born in 2000 to a British Korean family in New Malden, known as London’s ‘Korea Town’. Today, she continues to live there, appreciating the elegant languages and colourful food of both cultures. Ahya’s love for reading and drawing was encouraged by her parents from youth. In 2021, she graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in Religion and Theology as she enjoyed learning about theological texts and theologians which continue to influence her. Nonetheless, Ahya never stopped loving art, practising Fine Art and eventually picking up digital art, now her preferred medium. She loves expressing heartfelt emotions between characters in a whimsical way, inspired by her Christian faith, the wonders of nature and her love of happy endings in books. Gr1–3—This series offers heartwarming stories about friendship, helping others, and being a good neighbor. In one of the latest titles, Jina is partnered with a new boy for a school reading project, where she learns the importance of cooperation and mutual support. While Jina helps him find a book he enjoys, he teaches her soccer skills, so she no longer feels embarrassed in P.E. class. In another book, Jina's kindness extends beyond her circle of friends as she helps a neighbor in need, demonstrating the value of being a thoughtful community member. The simple text is ideal for early readers, and the colorful illustrations enhance the stories. Both books feature relatable plots that may inspire young readers to make a new friend or lend a hand to someone in their neighborhood. The back matter includes a glossary, discussion prompts, writing activities, and a craft project with easy-to-follow instructions, making these titles both engaging and educational. VERDICT Positive and inspiring, these books are excellent additions to any early reader collection.
