Overview

"Concentrate on the surrounding conditions you want to produce, and avoid excuses for not living a fruitful life." Pietro Grieco believes proverbs and epigrams can be used as stepping stones, seeds of inspiration, and sparks of creativity. With the idea of inspiring and empowering others, Pietro shares a compilation of over two hundred meaningful sayings that he hopes can help people discover fortitude, elevation, and joy within daily living. Grieco, a doctor of divinity and the president of the Foundation for Development of Spiritual Thinking, relies on both his personal and professional experiences as he offers condensed gems of positive wisdom that can be perused either by theme or randomly as affirmations, meditations, or reflections. Through his thoughtful writings, Grieco subtly encourages us to practice consistent mindfulness while musing about such relatable themes as suffering, gratitude, humility, prayer, forgiveness, and transformation. Proverbs and Epigrams: Brief Ideas with Great Power provides inspiration for anyone ready to be lifted up by a new perspective on life.

Chapter One

REALITY

Consciously or unconsciously, you create your own reality. Do it for a constructive purpose.

COMPASSION

A compassionate heart calms all tempests.

SPIRITUAL THINKER

The best way to be a spiritual thinker is not to think. Just be, and smile.

REALITY

Reality never is a naked truth. Reality is a representation.

THOUGHT

Most thoughts we think to be original are but repetitions of old thoughts. To have a new thought is truly a phenomenon.

COSMIC

We do not live in a material world. We live in a cosmic consciousness.

PILGRIMAGE

Life is a continuous pilgrimage into the depth of our own heart.

WHOLENESS

The whole is composed and sustained by opposite forces.

SILENCE

Silence and emptiness obliterate time and space.

MOVEMENT

Without movement, the universe collapses.

TRUTH

To know truth, you must investigate the assumptions behind your own thoughts and your ways of thinking.

THOUGHT

It can rain on your head but never in your mind. Thoughts never get wet.

HAPPINESS

Happy are those who can be satisfied with what they have.

REALITY

Reality is an invisible machine building our world in each instant.

PLENITUDE

Emptiness is the source of plenitude.

PERSEVERANCE

Wise is the intelligent person who, though failing time after time, keeps his calm and persists.

HAPPINESS

Happiness is abundant to the simple.

TECHNOLOGY

When technology is speedier than humanity, chaos is near.

HARMONY

The one who is in harmony with the whole will find it easy to find peace with the parts.

HARMONY

Light and darkness are the same in two different moments.

ENERGY

Life is energy. How you channel it will determine health or illness, happiness or despair.

WISDOM

Doing nothing is wiser than doing a lot of harm.

PEACE

If you do not fight for peace in your consciousness, you will fight wars with others.

GRATITUDE

Gratitude is the gate of supply, peace, and paradise.

JUSTICE

Pursuing peace is better than pursuing war, but pursuing justice and love is even better.

MEDITATION

Meditate and be at one with the wind and the birds. The wind will take away your thoughts, and the birds will fill you with joy.

BEING

Nobody can expel heaven from your heart except you.

EMPATHY

Often we feel bad for others when they don't understand us; seldom do we feel bad for ourselves when we don't understand others.

SPIRITUALITY

What we search for spiritually—as in science—has been there all the time.

FUTURE

As we keep knocking periodically on the future invisible wall, one day it opens, and bliss reveals itself.

NATURE

You discover the wonder of the world when you see the world through the wonder of life in and around you.

WORDS

It is always easier to criticize than to do the work.

PARADISE

There is no paradise on Earth unless you transform your place into a paradise.

WORDS

Among all human inventions, the word is the most powerful to injure or to heal.

VIOLENCE

At the end, weapons will destroy those who possess them.

VIOLENCE

Weapons will own the owner.

BODY

Love your body! It is the best vehicle you have.

PRAYER

Prayer is an anchor launched into the future.

EMPATHY

Feel empathy for all those in need, and do what your heart tells you to do.

PERSEVERANCE

It is not intelligence but perseverance and the right path that win the prize.

BEING

No man is very far away from his own being.

PATIENCE

Prisons are full of intelligent people who didn't have the patience to take the right way.

GOVERNMENT

A good government makes people happy when it is not ruining their future.

REALITY

When Max Plank received the Nobel Prize, he said, "There is a mind that is the matrix of all matter." But we look for the consciousness that is the matrix of mind, reality, and unreality.

BODY

Punishing the body does not heal the soul.

SPIRITUALITY

When there are interferences with God, the main problem is the ego.

CONNECTION

We are always connected to the Big Mind. However, we don't know how clear the connection is and how much energy we let pass through the connection.

CONNECTION

Cause and effect are parts of the same problem.

PERSEVERANCE

On propitious days, it is not wise to waste the hours.

INTENTION

Intention works through the field of connectivity to reach the source.

CONNECTION

In a blissful moment, we realize the sacred connection is like one between a man and a woman in loving intimacy, mystical and mysterious.

HAPPINESS

In life, there is no way to happiness because happiness is the rough way in life.

LOVE

Senses are not the abode of love; they are only ways to make it visible.

SPIRITUALITY

Don't buy a policy insuring your eternity because, if eternity exists, you will have paid in vain, and, if eternity doesn't exist, nobody will be there to pay you.

FRIENDSHIP

Friends are those with whom you can disagree openly.

HAPPINESS

If we do not find happiness, we have to change our way of seeing because when we change our way of seeing, things change.

CONSCIOUSNESS

Yes, the observer changes the object observed—logically—in his or her own consciousness.

CONNECTION

After a glance, how can one avoid being drowned in the other's eye?

SPIRITUALITY

Everyone has a high responsibility to treasure his or her divinity.

SPIRITUALITY

We are spiritual beings having a divine experience or a confused human one.

SPIRITUALITY

If you want to feel good in all that you do, you should be tuned in to the fountain of all goodness.

SORROW

Sorrow will not leave the one who embraces it often.

CONNECTION

Recognizing the best in others will bring out the best in us.

SPIRITUALITY

Good and God can be used as synonyms. If you really want to feel good, you have to feel God, experience God, and live God.

PRAYER

When you pray, pray for your friends and your foes; for the infinite parent, both are his children.

RESPECT

Respecting authority doesn't mean blind obedience.

COMPASSION

Is it possible to feel good when there is so much war, poverty, perversion, violence, and injustice? It doesn't matter how bad you feel, how much you suffer, or how much sickness you sense, never will you improve an ill person or a wounded world.

HAPPINESS

Improve the world; feel happy and do good deeds.

COMPASSION

You cannot be poor enough to improve the situation of the poor.

JOY

For a prisoner, joy is freedom. For the sad one also, joy is freedom.

CONNECTION

What is happening to you is happening to your world.

REALITY

What is real is only what we have been taught to accept as real.

REALITY

Reality is what our senses have been educated to perceive.

REALITY

When people give their values of truth to the perception of the world, they call it reality.

FREEDOM

To be authentic, freedom must destroy even the most subtle chains of slavery, but it has to be a slave of justice and harmony to be effective.

BEING

Concentrate on the surrounding conditions you want to produce, and avoid excuses for not living a fruitful life.

NATURE

Nature is happy with no ambitions and no morality.

CONNECTION

What we think of as obstacles are our own limitations in connecting with the source of infinite possibilities.

NATURE

Nature is in harmony respecting the whole and the parts of the great form.

LOVE

One of the greatest challenges for love is to do what is right to do: respect and live the truth even if it hurts.

CREATIVITY

Positive stress concentrates energy to be used in inspirational and creative actions.

IMAGINATION

Imagination has no limits.

BEING

We already are the whole accomplished being we want to be; we have just to demonstrate it.

VIOLENCE

Promoting killers as heroes does not generate an advanced, peaceful humanity.

SANCTITY

Saints appeared in the worst periods of history because they were needed.

CHILDHOOD

Can we expect children to be saints when they are growing in an environment contaminated by crime, noisy music, bad food, dogmatic religions, and biases of official propaganda waged against their own interests?

CONNECTION

It is possible to change the energy of life by reconnecting to the energy of the spirit.

VIOLENCE

In advanced countries, before the age of fourteen, young people have seen at least fourteen thousand simulated murders. Do so many killings surprise you?

WORDS

First, watch the way you talk to yourself and then to others.

EDUCATION

Never teach children through fear in order to manipulate them because they will do the same when they are adults.

PATIENCE

The best way to face violence is through nonviolence and unlimited patience.

TIME

While youth moves in virtual time, politicians crawl in their historical time.

SPIRITUALITY

The field of connection to the source responds according to how we feel and talk mentally.

CONNECTION

For the source, there is no separation, nor walls, between our thinking and the field of connection.

WISDOM

Intelligence depends on knowledge; wisdom relies on prudence.

FUTURE

The future knows how to respond and fulfill your desire according to the intentions with which you connect to it.

PATIENCE

When things don't work from the start, think from the perfect end, and the outcome will be right.

CONNECTION

See yourself always connected because this is the way it already is.

THOUGHT

We follow the old concept of "as a man thinks, so is he" because thoughts are energy in motion.

HARMONY

When we are in harmony, we are at one with the source, the future, and the eternal presence.

FRIENDSHIP

Friends are those in front of whom we can think aloud; they can laugh about our stupidity, and we can laugh at ourselves too.

BEING

You can be the maximum of your being. Don't limit it. Let it be.

INTENTION

Have the clear intention to live with a loving purpose, and the purpose will unfold.

SPIRITUALITY

You are inspired when you are really breathing in spirit.

CREATIVITY

When sudden inspiration touches the dormant forces of your being, be ready to let creativity flow.

NATURE

The most precious things—life, air, and the sky—are free.

BEING

When you are at one with the future, which is infinite, you will envision the vastness of your being.

SPIRITUAL THINKER

Spiritual thinkers neither prohibit nor push; they only show luminous ideas.

FUTURE

It is impossible to think of the future and the vastness of its creativity. That is why the future comes to us drop by drop.

MUSIC

Never think to die with the music of life still in you. Sing and let your music play.

SPIRITUALITY

In agony or ecstasy, remind your unique self that one human lifetime is only a short parenthesis in eternity. Then be free to open the parenthesis and see the infinite.

PURPOSE

Live a life with the higher purpose you can follow, and be grateful for the small achievements of each day.

KINDNESS

Instead of being upset by those who bring problems, offer benevolence and abundant blessing to them.

BEING

You can never lose a simple thing. You brought nothing small into this life, and nothing small will you take away.

KINDNESS

Being a recipient of acts of kindness releases more endorphins, increasing peace and happiness in you and others. Be a giver!

BEING

To be—even for an infinitesimal moment—is not a small thing.

BEING

Staying in your doing is the grace of being active in the full meaning of life.

KINDNESS

Loving kindness increases our health, strengthening the immune system of the whole community.

TIME

To stay in the now means to stay frozen in the prison of ephemeral time.

TIME

Be and let time vanish.

BEING

We are more than what we think. We are what we love, what we create, and what we can transcend.

KINDNESS

Givers and receivers of acts of kindness increase their well-being and the well-being of the whole society.

SPIRITUALITY

Being connected to Spirit—the source of well-being—makes it possible to create bliss from nothing and all.

COMPASSION

From time to time, let the weak or the disabled one be the winner, the real hero. Then you will feel something beautiful is growing in your soul.

SPIRITUALITY

The provider of endless supply doesn't know about your "I don't have." Notice how much love you can give, how much grace you can manifest, and how much beauty you can express.

SPIRITUALITY

We thank God for each symbol of abundance coming to our life, especially when we don't need it.

PRAYER

With every prayer, create a space of receptivity to collect all that will be supplied as an answer.

SPIRITUALITY

When we are in the sacred space of spirit, all that we need is supplied. Be there!

GRACE

When you are conquered by grace, the universe will conspire with you to provide what you need, even the unexpected.

TRANSFORMATION

Change your life. Love yourself, and change your thinking. But start from higher principles.

KNOWLEDGE

Faulty interpretation of facts produces a lot of suffering.

JUDGMENT

We will be free when we stop interpreting and judging others, thus avoiding being wrongly interpreted and judged, especially in our own mind.

When you meditate, concentrate on God or your divine self ... or both as one.

Unseen things will become visible when devotion opens the door of trust.

To create peace, we must feel at peace, and when peace seems impossible, we must create the best conditions to generate peace.

Honor others, especially if they consider themselves enemies. In the long run, they will transform into friends.

SPIRITUALITY

To pass the threshold into eternal life, we need to give away all our possessions, including our body.

LOVE

We go in spirit as pure soul. This way, we can embrace the one and be at one with love.

TEACHER

For a sensitive student, the lilies of the field or the silent sky can be exceptional teachers.

SPIRITUALITY

When our spirit is at one with the force, an infinite energy replenishes our being effortlessly.

MEDITATION

When the meditation has been deep, we come back from the Mount of Peace and Transfiguration with a face luminously filled with divine light.

MEDITATION

Meditation leaves behind mind and body; thus, our being will be transparent to time and space and conscious of infinite peace and joy.

MEDITATION

Meditation means alignment to perfection with all; then we are at peace with the whole and the parts.

FORGIVENESS

We forgive when we are less critical of ourselves and more compassionate toward others.

BODY

Be happy and grateful for your body. It will allow you to enjoy a greater life.

HAPPINESS

Unhappiness is based on low-level assumptions. These produce twisted thinking, fear, panic, and even rage. Accepting reality as it is lets us navigate at a higher altitude.

FORGIVENESS

When we fail to forgive, we fail to manifest genuine love.

EMPATHY

When we assume to know how other people feel, we may not realize how their burdens may be heavier than anything we might ever have imagined.

DEVOTION

Devotion or suffering can put us on our knees; it depends on us to choose.

WISDOM

If understanding doesn't humble us, then suffering will.

TEACHING

Some teachers teach with words, others teach with silence, and others teach with their lives.

SUFFERING

Pain more than pleasure has guided individuals to a spiritual awakening.

JOURNEY

It is important to know what to seek, but the way we seek will determine failure or success.

MEANING

How we make meaning and create space for new meanings will make the whole difference in our search.

JOURNEY

On Earth, we are all immigrants or aliens. One day, we will have to emigrate to new dimensions. The original ticket already includes the connection to the flight ahead.

REALITY

Go forth peacefully into all possible landscapes. In the quality of seeing, you will create them and find what you expect or not.

SUFFERING

Scars in your soul are the reason for the pain in your brain.
