Pucker Factor Stories of MACV SOG Vol.1 Issue 4: SOG stories from the Veterans in their own words.
These are the first hand stories of the men of MACV SOG. A clandestine Special Forces group that specialized in reconnaissance, most of which was behind enemy lines, during the Vietnam War. Many of the stories have remained private to these Veterans of SOG. Even their own families not knowing the full extent of some of their activities. Author Jason B. Collins after hearing many of these stories encouraged his SOG contacts and friends to share their stories - The stories are as follows - 1. My memory of the TET offensive - U.S Navy Captain J.W. is attached to MACV SOG in the communications department. Based in Saigon, it was not a place you would want to find yourself on January 30, 1968. Capt. J.W would find he was in the middle of the Tet offensive. He cannot let his Top Secret crypto communications equipment fall into enemy hands at any cost. 2. Project SIGMA -Manuel Beck talks about joining the U.S Special Forces and going into SOG'S Project SIGMA. Manuel give us the straight facts about covert missions to fight the N.V.A and "Daniel Boone" missions over the fence in Cambodia. An accurate, detailed account of one mans war. 3. The night of the Gordon Gibbons - A crazy story about physiological warfare with a very different enemy. Ret. LTC Bob Grear recalls a mission with RT Indiana on the edges of the DMZ zone. No amount of training would prepare them for this engagement. 4. FLASH Tale - A young U.S Army pilot Capt Francis Doherty assigned to MACV SOG flies his unarmed reconnaissance plane into hostile skies over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Cambodia. It doesn't take long before he has company in the form of a Cambodian fighter pilot. Who wants Captain Doherty to land IMMEDIATELY! or face the consequences.

About the Author

Jason was born in 1970 in Vancouver, Canada, where he grew up immersed in military history. Both of his grandfathers served during World War II, along with many other relatives who fought in various conflicts abroad. He cherished the tales they shared with him. As time went on and these veterans passed away, Jason realized that much of their history was lost with them. In the years that followed, he began documenting the stories of soldiers, airmen, and sailors who had served their nations. Fast forward to today, and Jason has embarked on a mission to share the experiences of his new friends and contacts—the men of MACV SOG. Jason states, "These stories of the men of MACV SOG should not fade into obscurity. I am committed to preserving their histories so that future generations can learn about these courageous warriors."
