Flora N. Fauna, that adventurous grandmother, loves animals. In this book, she guides readers to discover the names for baby animals. Puggle, squeaker, and cria are all names for baby animals. But what type of animal goes with each one? While she hikes, rows, and rides in hot air balloons, Flora N. Fauna and her two grandchildren lead young readers to discover which baby animals are described by these and other names. The book challenges readers by first showing an animal's habitat in beautifully illustrated watercolors along with that animal's baby name ("A puggle is a baby ..."). On the first page the animals are shown only in silhouette. The following page reveals the complete scene and the type of animal is revealed ("A puggle is a baby ... platypus").

About the Author

Jacqueline Francis graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Environmental Biology. She worked for the Federal government for 33 years as a biologist, environmental engineer, and instructor. Throughout those working years, she dreamed of writing a series of children's books with Flora N. Fauna as her main character. Now after retiring and after successfully battling breast cancer, she is fulfilling her dream. "Puggle the Baby Platypus" is the second in her series of Flora N. Fauna discovery books. When she is not writing, she enjoys tennis, hiking, swimming, cycling, quilting, watercolor painting, and photography.
