It is a clear description and explanation of the basic principles and teachings of Vedanta, offering insights and direction for all who are seeking the wholeness, security and joy that can only be found in our connection to the one Source of all life and creation.
Vedanta philosophy offers a thorough and concise foundation for spiritual living and attainment. The teachings embrace and support all religions and spiritual paths leading to realization of Truth.
Vedanta does not prescribe any form of conversion but rather encourages us to embrace the path we are drawn to naturally. It offers to all, the aid of an exceptional depth of understanding, and clear expression of spiritual Truth that has come down to us through the ages.

About the Author

Cliff Johnson has been practicing Vedanta for nearly half a century. His practice began in all seriousness with his joining the Ramakrishna Order of India in 1965. In that year he assumed the post of Executive Editor of Vedanta and the West magazine.
During the following ten years he composed numerous essays and in later years wrote and published the chapters in this present volume. In collaboration with his guru, Swami Prabhavananda, Johnson edited Vedanta: An anthology of Scripture, Commentary and Poetry, which was published by Harper and Row in 1971.
After leaving the monastery in 1976, Johnson founded InnerQuest Publishing. A few years later he stumbled upon a manuscript by his close friend, Nancy Pope Mayorga, The Hunger of the Soul, and decided to publish it. This remarkable spiritual diary is still in print.
In 2005 he wrote Inner Peace in a Busy World, a book on meditation for young people.
He presently teaches meditation at a Boys and Girls Club in Monterey Park, California. He is also a playwright, book reviewer and runs a contracting business.
