Reactivity of Solids
This vo1ume contains all the papers presented at the 8th International Symposium on the Reactivity of Solids. The Symposium, the 1a test of aseries started in 1948, was held at Cha1mers University of Techno10gy, Goteborg, Sweden, between June 14th and June 19, 1976. This was the second occasion on which a symposium in this series had been held in Goteborg. On the first occasion, in 1952, the Symposium was arranged by Professor J. Arvid Hedva11, the pioneering scientist in the fie1d of Solid State Chemistry, Profes- sor at Cha1mers University since 1929 and one of those responsib1e for promoting the ear1y symposia of this series. It was a cause of regret to his friends and co11eagues that he died in the interval between the venue for the Eighth Symposium being announced and the meeting taking p1ace. In memory of Arvid Hedva11, an exhibition of his books and writings was arranged and put on display for the ben- efit of participants in the Symposium. The Symposium comprised 112 papers, about 60% of those or g n- a11y submitted, and was attended by approximate1y 250 participants from all over the wor1d. For the first time in the series, papers were presented in two forms, in over1apping but not parallel ses- sions. Approximate1y one half of the papers were presented in the form of a poster display. For these, each paper was disp1ayed for 10nger periods to a110w for all the material to be digested.
