About the Author

Dr. Stephen S. Birdsall is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a master's and a doctoral degree in geography from Michigan State University and is the co-author of four books and atlases.

Dr. Jon Malinowski is Professor of Geography at the United States Military Academy. He holds a master's and a doctoral degree in geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the co-author of seven books.

Dr. Wiley C. Thompson is the head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at West Point. He holds a master's and a doctoral degree in geography from Oregon State University. He is also an Army officer and combat veteran.
