About the Author

Timothy Orwig has taught classes on the architecture, art, and culture of Boston at Boston University, Brandeis University, and Simmons College. As a preservationist and consultant, Tim successfully nominated more than a dozen buildings and districts to the National Register of Historic Places in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and his home state of Iowa. A graduate of Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, Tim earned a master of arts in English language and literature from the University of Arkansas. For his M.A. thesis in Preservation Studies at Boston University, he documented the evolution of the almshouse, poorhouse, and poor farm in Massachusetts. Tim has lectured and published articles on architecture, preservation, and rare prairie butterflies. He co-edited The Augustana Reader and wrote Morningside College: A Centennial History. Tim is married and lives with his family in Walpole, Massachusetts.
