About the Author

As Dave Shampine completes his forty-first year as crime reporter and history writer with the Watertown Daily Times in Northern New York, he provides his fourth offering to The History Press in this collection of Civil War stories. He made his debut with The History Press in 2009 with Remembering New York's North Country: Tales from Times Gone By and then followed in 2010 with two publications: Colorful Characters of Northern New York: Northern Lights and the work to which he was dedicated for more than a decade, The North Country Murder of Irene Izak: Stained by Her Blood. A native of Carthage, New York, and a lifetime resident of Jefferson County, New York, Mr. Shampine takes pride in his education at Carthage Augustinian Academy, Jefferson Community College, where in 2007 he was honored with a professional achievement award, Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire and the State University of New York College at Brockport.
