While the author was personally motivated to plan for retirement by a health scare, she cautions readers to benefit from what she learned and “live for now.” To get readers started, Ryan throws out some big questions: “Who are you going to be as you age?” “What is meaningful to you now?” For anyone stuck, fear not; Ryan breaks the process into digestible bites: start by making up a bucket list, take some time to complete the values assessment, and consider one’s hobbies (for those who don’t have any, consult the extensive list). There’s help in deciding where to spend retirement (it’s not all vacation living), making new friends, and turning hobbies into part-time jobs. And for those readers who want to start their own businesses, take note: there are a lot of entrepreneurs in the 55–64 age group, Ryan writes.
