Overview

When planets are in retrograde motion, they appear to be moving backwards but do not physically do so. Communication feels stagnant, motivation is deterred, and self-esteem hits an all time low. However, this is also a time to recognize areas to evolve and find inner insight on our wants and needs. In this chaos there is room to feel, and room to grow. Retrograde is an exploration of finding lessons in the chaos. Each poem displays the journey to move forward, but also the many moments of feeling stuck and moving backward. Divided into three sections, Anjé explores hurt and anger, romance and healing, love and joy. Through her fiery Sag moon, her Libra exes, and her quirky Cancer sun, she describes her journey away from the hurt and towards a better place for herself.

About the Author

Anjé is a quirky Black poet who has aspired to publish poetry since she was 13-years-old. An advocate for mental health and self care, Anjé beautifully expresses her emotional intelligence in the pages of her poems. With over 10 years worth of writing experience, she has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Psychology, and a Master's degree in Counseling. When she's not doing workshops on self-care, she spends her time performing at open mics such as Voices in Power in Philly, being the Editor-In-Chief for The Literary Revolutionary & Co., and an Associate Editor for Quirktastic, where she writes anything from anime articles to manifestations and witch tips.

She is the 2020 recipient of the Samuel M. Cameron Graduate Award for Excellence in Counseling and she is a performing spoken word artist. Her new book, Retrograde, helps navigate people through mental health and hurt, to find self-love and joy.
