Neuroscientist and corporate consultant Vignola's first book is a welcome addition to the emerging field of self-help books that start with a reclaiming of the body's systems. She breaks down neuroplasticity to its most basic form: "repetition + attention + intention = lasting change," and in laying out this clear equation, reassures readers that they can reshape their brains, thoughts, behaviors, and lives. As appealing as this simplicity can be, there's the dangerous trap of oversimplification—even the equation has a touch of good-vibes-only manifestation energy. However, the reframing of fixity to plasticity is one that can and should become a foundational tool in mental health biohackers' toolkits. Some of Vignola's advice—such as sleep more, scroll less—hardly qualifies as groundbreaking, but her overall approach to making neuroscience accessible might empower readers to change their narratives. VERDICT With quotations and references drawn from pop culture set alongside cutting-edge research on neuroplasticity and other facets of cognition, this is an easy-to-read addition to the growing ranks of biohacking books.
