River Song: Poems

In this chapbook, her third collection of poetry, Deborah Hochberg traverses the landscape of loss.

and in another

alternate reality

it is you who must go on

without me

without our nightly conversations

how we could talk

about anything

about everything

Weaving back and forth in time, from youthful innocence through illness and bereavement, these poems seek to chart the wild and disorienting experience of grief.

The other side

lies closer

than we think

One moment here together

a gentle communion

as if known

before

it was to be

our last

conversation

Existing in a place between absence and presence, these bittersweet and unsentimental poems honor a singular relationship and the persistence of human connection.
