Overview

On July 4, July 1992, right after the Soviet Union voted itself out of business, 12 planes left from Santa Monica Airport on journey to fly around the world in 21 days while crossing the entire landmass of Russia. As guests of Russian Vice President Alexander Rutskoi the aviators traveled with the clout of the highest political officials in the land, but sometimes that was not enough to avert disaster. Comprised of primarily American crews, it was an amazingly expensive and risky adventure.
