Amelia Matthews once teetered between life and death, but somehow she escaped. Now, Amelia's life is falling apart, so is her marriage to her precarious husband Abel. She finds herself shoveled into an old transitionary home for the lost and the broken. There she sees a young girl, Kylie Cuza, who seems more alone and afraid than she is. With the last bit of humanity that she has, playing on her heart, she reaches out to help Kylie, but she and Abel are pulled down a rabbit hole of clubs, murder, and gang affairs.

Desperate to relieve herself and her husband, but helpless, she turns to a faith she had long abandoned in her youth; a faith that lay dormant since before the death of her only child. The only stipulation is that she must learn how to run on water.
