Description: This book provides 3,500 practice NCLEX-RN test questions that represent and are based on the 2001 NCLEX-RN test plan. The book includes information about the test and how to prepare, practice questions with answers, and an NCLEX-RN review on CD-ROM.
Purpose: The purpose is to introduce candidates to important points about the NCLEX-RN examination, the process of testing, and unique and special tips for test preparation. The book meets the objectives by providing a foundation prior to a computerized review.
Audience: According to the author, the book is written for students who have completed a basic nursing program and are now preparing for the registered nurse licensure examination. The book meets this purpose. The author has conducted nursing review courses for RN and PN licensure exams since 1991.
Features: The book covers test-taking strategies for successful completion of the NCLEX-RN. Chapters are organized by client needs categories and include practice test questions related to each category. Integrated concepts include caring, communication and documentation, cultural awareness, nursing process, self-care and teaching/learning. Review questions are organized in a two-column format. The first column lists questions and answers/distractors. The second column lists the answer with rationale and test-taking strategy for each item. All items have level of cognitive ability, client needs, integrated concept/process, content area, and references listed. The book also contains critical thinking questions. One unique feature of the book is a passage written by a candidate who recently passed the licensure examination.
Assessment: Although the book does not contain a content review as in other NCLEX-RN review books, it is an updated edition of a necessary resource for candidates preparing for licensure examination. Placing answers with rationale on the same page is helpful. In similar review books, questions are presented sequentially with answers in another location.
