Overview

Paranormal Investigator Lance Frost and his faery sidekick Puck are knee deep in exorcisms, monster sightings, poltergeists and other things that go bump in the night, in a small-town in Kansas. He is soon tasked with finding a missing member of a prominent metal band, of whom he happens to be a major fan. Shortly thereafter he and Puck are roped into helping a local detective solve a string of brutal, paranormal murders. The shadows, always hiding the assailant from view.

On his journey Lance has to juggle a love sick faery from his past, body guarding his favorite band and the daily struggle with his inner demons. As the body count rises Lance, Puck and his friends find themselves on the precipice of destruction. Failure to find this shadowy killer will mean not only the end of their town, but the end of their lives.

About the Author

M. Keating was born in fall of 1987 in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. He didn't get into writing until his late
twenties after finding a love of contemporary fantasy and other fantasy novels. He wrote some mediocre
short stories that he attempted to get published in magazines but to no avail. He then wrote
his first novel "Secrets & Shadows" which he tried to get traditionally published with an agent for over a year,
but again, that went nowhere fast.


His hobbies include crochet, writing (obviously), and training in various martial arts (which include
taekwondo, MMA, Karate and soon to be Brazilian Jiu-jitsu) whenever he is able to get away from his day
job.

I thought it started out a little slow but was soon drawn into the magical community and mystery surrounding
the murders Lance was investigating. I can see a sequel coming. Would read it in a heartbeat.

Keating seems like a good author to keep an eye on in the future. I know there's plenty of urban fantasy
detective fiction out there, but I found Lance to be a more relatable hero. As a fellow Midwesterner it was nice
to see some geographic representation as well. Will keep my eyes and ears open for future novels.

Secrets & Shadows was awesome! I typically have a hard time with visualization while reading but this book is
descriptive and paints a clear picture in the mind throughout the story. The plot twists kept me
engaged and eager to read. Highly recommend and hope there will be more Lance Frost adventures!
