About the Author

Norman N. Li is the Director of Engineered Products and Process Technology at Allied-Signal, Inc.'s Research Center in Des Plaines, Illinois. He is the holder of numerous patents, editor of a multi-volume book, and author of about 120 scientific publications on the topics of crystallization, extraction, blood oxygenation, water treatment, and enzyme, liquid, and polymeric membranes. The recipient of the American Chemical Society's Award in Separation Science and Technology and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' Alpha Chi Sigma Award for Chemical Engineering Research, Dr. Li received the Ph.D. degree (1963) in chemical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey. Dr. Li is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States.

Joseph M. Calo is Professor of Engineering at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. The coeditor of three books, his research interests are in the areas of chemical reaction engineering and applied chemical kinetics, especially as regards gas-solid reactions and energy production. Dr. Calo received the B. S.Ch. E. degree (1966) from the Newark College of Engineering, New Jersey, and the Ph.D. degree (1970) in chemical engineering from Princeton University, New Jersey.
