Overview

Shame on You by Tara Sivec

After war veteran Kennedy O’Brien returned home from Afghanistan and caught her husband in bed with the nanny, she lost her faith in all things male. So she started Fool Me Once Investigations to stick it to the man—because there’s no better bounty hunter than a woman scorned.

Her latest job is a wild dog-chase to slap cuffs on a bail jumper turned Chihuahua thief, but thanks to her meddling family, Kennedy will have to put up with a partner. And it’s about the last man she’d ever pick: her cheating ex-husband’s best friend, Griffin Crawford. As gorgeous as he is unwelcome, Griffin is a pesky (if scorching hot) reminder that Kennedy will need help to catch her man—and to open up her heart again.

What would you do if you caught your spouse being unfaithful? Of course the first feeling would be a deep hurt from the betrayal... then anger can take over as we realize the world we knew may be coming to an end. Kennedy O’Brien is a war veteran coming home from Afghanistan - she knows what to do with cheating partners. She is a sexy female who is tough as nails and knows exactly how to nail a man who has committed adultery.Fool me once - shame on you. Fool me twice - shame on me ... come on guys - why aren’t you saying this with me?This is a funny romantic comedy that is well written. Get ready for some laughs when you read it.  Jeannie Walker (Award-Winning Author) "Thomas the Friendly Ghost" - A True Story

Tara Sivec writes the funniest romance novels available, and Shame On You is among those. Kennedy is a stubborn no frills lady that is holding a grudge against her ex-best friend. Griffin is the ex-best friend that has actually wanted Kennedy since high school, but lost her to the third part of their friendship,  Kennedy's now ex-husband. Once her father puts them on a case chasing a bail jumper the fireworks start to fly

Six months ago, Kennedy walked in on her husband and the nanny getting to know each other better. Since then, she’s formed a business with her two best friends, Fool Me Once Investigations.  Kennedy’s side of the partnership is as a bounty hunter and she usually works with her father’s bail bond office. When her father sends a new bounty hunter with her on a routine case, Kennedy is not happy to discover that it’s Griffin, her ex’s best friend.  She’s not happy because, though they were pretty close friends, too, Griffin kept the ex’s cheating from her. Griffin won’t take a hint or a strongly worded suggestion to get lost.  Then he suggests a bet for who will capture the jumper first: if Kennedy wins, she can punch him like she really wants to do (and she’s former army, so she could probably hurt him), but if he wins, they go on a date. Kennedy doesn’t know what to think about this because she’s always had a thing for Griffin and she is so hot for him right now, especially since she’s been celibate since her divorce.  So she takes the bet and goes about getting her man. I cannot tell you how much joy this book brought me.  It was so funny, I literally laughed out loud several times (which is a big deal).  I’d seen a review that compared this story to the Stephanie Plum books (that is the reason why I bought it), and I do get the comparison, but it’s also kind of completely different. For one thing, I wish there was as much overt hanky panky in the Stephanie Plum books, especially with Ranger. Griffin and Kennedy’s chemistry was so smoking hot and undeniably sweet that I just read the whole book right on through.  It is pretty short, though, just over 100 pages, and I wish it were longer.  The escapades that Kennedy got into were hilarious and the writing was so crisp and fun. It was exactly what I didn’t know I needed, fast-paced and sexy. I really liked the other girls, Lorelei and Paige, too.  And Griffin is totally at the top of my fake boyfriend list, even though he has blond hair, though I wouldn’t have made him work so hard :).  I am foaming at the mouth for the next two books in the series.  In the meantime, I think I will check out the author’s backlist. Highly recommended. 4.5/5

Tara has a way of making you laugh to a point where you almost pee your panties. Yes. Sadly it's true but oh so worth it. Since I read books to & from work on the Subway, I got a few looks when I just busted out laughing...I don't care though....Shame on You was able to make me laugh & forget my worries for the day. I loved the characters. Kennedy and her friends were over the top funny. I love when friends can torture each other & support each other all at same time. “I love my best friends, but sometimes, I want to punch them in the face. Lovingly, of course.”  The story line was fun!! I loved the PI plot. Very intriguing.  When Tara brought Griffin into the picture my insides were melting, I was drooling & trying not to hump the Subway seat (gross, I know!!) Griffin is just so hot!!! I want a ride on his motorcycle. Like now. (mmm Griffin!!) The relationship between Kennedy & Griffin had me laughing non stop!! I loved the way Griffin was pursing Kennedy & how she just slammed him down every time. What I loved about this book: - the laughs - Kennedy's family...especially her dad & uncle!! Ugh!! So much fun!!! - Kennedy's gfs. I need those kinds of gals in my life! What I didn't like about this book: - It was too short. I needed more. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

3.5 Stars ~Reviewed by SUZANNE & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog Kennedy O’Brien started Fool Me Once Investigations after coming home from Afghanistan to find her husband balls deep in another woman. Now Kennedy along with her two best friends take down any man thrown their way. Only Kennedy seems to be having trouble with her current dog napping bail jumper, who keeps slipping from her grasp. However, the last thing she needs is Griffin Crawford”s help, but her former deliciously sexy best friend, fellow war veteran and lying rat bastard seems to determined to stay on her tail and earn her trust back. There are a few things I can always rely on with a Tara Sivec book, lots of laughter, lots of sarcasm and a book that keeps me turning the pages, Shame on You was no different and I powered through this fairly short book in no time. I really liked Kennedy and enjoyed reading this book from her point of view, her thoughts were hilarious, and the banter between her and her best friends and her family were fantastic, keeping a massive grin on my face throughout the book. Tara Sivec excels at writing funny and snarky female leads, so although she may have seemed really similar to other characters I have read by her that didn’t stop me from enjoying this book. The romance itself was kind of sweet, kind of sexy with a friends to lovers vibe going on. Griffin was nice and had some mad bedroom skills, but he didn’t stand out for me as much in this book as Kennedy did, so if you are looking for a book with a swoonworthy and unforgettable hero this probably isn’t for you. A really enjoyable and quick read guaranteed to put a smile on your face, I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! * ARC provided by author

I am a HUGE fan of Tara Sivec’s literary work. I first fell in love with her Chocolate Lover’s Series where her sense of humor had me laughing to the point of tears. When she moved into Romantic Suspense and New Adult genre, I followed right along into her first book in the Fool Me Once series, Shame on You. Three women make up the Fool Me Once private investigation agency: Kennedy O’Brien, an ex-army war veteran, Paige McCarty, with looks of a supermodel and weakness for designer shoes, and Lorelei Warner, a lawyer with a style that is all class. They each had their heart trampled by “rat bastards” they loved and they found themselves in need of the support of one another, hence began their working relationship in the agency. Kennedy O’Brien is the only girl in an Irish Catholic family where everyone has served in the army. She is no exception. After she doesn’t re-enlist after discovering her husband’s indiscretion she chooses to be closer to her two girls and helps with the family business, Bail Bonds. Her father and Uncle Wallie has a job for her to do in finding a jumper and sends her to investigate and take along a new partner. Little did she ever think it would be Griffin Crawford, her cheating ex-husband’s best friend. I fell in love with him from the moment he got off his motorcycle. My motor was definitely running! This is where it gets really good! The male bashing sessions between the girls is hilarious and it feels like any girl session I’ve ever been in. Men are “rat bastards” and they discuss the many reasons why. Kennedy is no delicate flower and her tough exterior has got her where she is today. But there is no denying her attraction to Griffin. She tries to put as many obstacles in his way to keep him from his relentless pursuit of her. He shows his strength without being in your face about it. I found his character so appealing and definitely wouldn’t resist arrest if he wanted to cuff me! As with all of Tara’s writing, she is the Queen of Sarcasm and deserves the title. This book is filled with funny phrases and witty banter. I know I had a smile on my face as I read this quick and dirty read. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two characters jockey for position to see who would get win. I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series. It would be a shame to miss this one!
