Sins of the Heart (The Sins Series, #1) by Eve Silver

“…dark, seductive, and sexy as sin.”—Library Journal

Dagan Krayl, the Underworld's most powerful soul reaper, is the demigod son of the evil god Sutekh. He's on a mission to find his murdered brother's remains and resurrect him, but resurrection means that the secrets carried into death would be released and, with them, a war that could end gods and mankind alike.

Roxy Tam is searching for the same thing, but for completely different reasons. She means to make certain that the remains don’t fall into Sutekh’s hands, and that the soul reapers do not reanimate their fallen comrade. As a Daughter of Aset, Roxy is tasked with the protection of the human race, and if that means thwarting an all powerful soul reaper and making certain his dead brother stays dead, so be it. But when Roxy sees Dagan face-to-face, she realizes that she has met him once before—a meeting that changed her life forever.

Neither Dagan nor Roxy expects to join forces for the sake of mankind. Or to have their loyalties tested as they struggle against treachery, betrayal and the potent desire that threatens to consume them both.

As I started reading Sins of the Heart and throughout it, I kept getting the euphoric feeling that I have found a new favorite author. The same feelings I had when I started reading Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, Karen Marie Moning and the like authors. Sins of the Heart had everything I look for in a paranormal romance: a smart and feisty heroine, gorgeous drool-worthy hero from the Other world, a tight plot, believable and heart-pounding passion along with pages full of action and mystery. The main thing that kept my interest is the whole new world of dimension that Eve Silver has spun around the traditional myths on the Greek and Egyptian gods like Hades, Set, Isis, and Osiris. She's added her own layers of creative storytelling with her soul reapers, making the adventures seem limitless and I can't wait to gobble up more these guys. I plan on getting the rest of the Otherkin trilogy as it publish, and I'm so thankful that they are only a month apart in their publishing dates. And I'm happy to share that I found out the Otherkin books will not end with this trilogy, that Eve has two more books planned for the Otherkin world. *fist pump* I can only hope Eve continues to write these books beyond the two planned.

This book has been in my review pile for a while, always tempting me with it's cover to read it, the back blurb however always drew me back. It sounded interesting but not interesting enough. And that's how the story was, it was interesting enough to make me curious as to how it would all go but it wasn't interesting enough to make me want to stick it out to the end. I found the hero and the story idea fascinating but the heroine and the plot less than spectacular. The heroine was a bit two faced in the then sense that she gets all worked up if someone uses words that could be "offensive" yet doesn't mind tossing out a few racial slurs or using words that could be used as an insult. I don't think the heroine is a bad person, she just had a crappy life, so she puts up this 'I'm big, bad, and tough and don't need anyone's' help front to insure no one screws with her. There was just something that doesn't spark my interest in her enough to want to know more about her. The killer of Dagen's youngest brother was obvious I knew right away from the second I found out he had been killed who it had been. Yes, I like guessing who the bad guys are in stories but come on give me some sort of wild goose chase before I nail the bastard. I managed to get to the halfway point of this book before I realized I was no longer reading it rather than mostly skimming it. So I'm not sure I'll continue on with this series or not. So though the cover and story idea held a good deal of interest the execution of the plot and heroine were sadly disapointing. Not reccomending you pay money for this, borrow it or something.

Dagan is a soul reaper and son of Sutekh, god of chaos and one of the major players in the underworld. Roxy Tam was just a girl he saves one faithful day from being raped and killed. Something about her haunted Dagan, but thought that by saving her and leaving her to her life was doing the one good thing in his life. Unfortunately that meeting had an effect on both for 11 years until they meet once again. This time, when meeting each other they are both trying to piece together a mystery in which they are trying to find a body, a killer as well as a motive. Even though misunderstandings and mysteries stand in the way, neither can afford to have this inexplicable attraction to one another, but denying it is much worse. And like all good PNRs, they cannot resist. Each has a piece of the puzzle. Each has their own agenda. Can they put aside their emotions long enough to put the puzzle together? I give this book 4 stars. This story really had me captured at the beginning. Loved Roxy's snarkyness and Dagan's dry humor. And if you are like me... you will shake your fist at the end. Why? Well, since it is a trilogy, it ends with the one thing I hate most in books... the cliff hanger! This book just came out at the beginning of this month and yes... wait for it... the next installment, "Sins of the Soul" will be out Sept. 1, 2010.

As the eldest son of Sutekh, Lord of Chaos(just one of a string of glorious titles), Dagan Krayl is the most feared soul reaper, gathering the wickedest souls for his father to consume. When his brother is brutally murdered, Dagan is determined to find and destroy those responsible. Roxy Tam is an Asetian Guard of the Daughters of Aset, set on protecting the innocent. She finds herself drawn to Dagan as she joins him on the quest to seek answers to his brothers death, uncovering a plot destine to cause war in the Underworld. ***** Roxy and Dagan have a bond that pulls them together, neither is sure why, though Roxy has a pretty good idea. I love the passion and determination each of them show, for each other, and for what they believe in. Dagan is a delicious being that I would love to be able to take a bite out of. The heat of desire between him and Roxy keeps the pages smoldering, that and the action-packed adventure they embark on to find the truth keeps the pages turning. Roxy is a bit more reluctant to let go of herself than Dagan, she has her secrets and fears, but Dagan is able to draw her out, whether she likes if or not. As the first book of a new dark paranormal series Eve Silver did an excellent job creating a world inhabited by gods, demons, humans and everything in between. She masterfully blended both Earthly and Underworld characters and scenes. I was drawn into a whole new world that I cannot wait to further explore. Especially as there are answers I still need. I can't wait to see who and what is in store for Dagan's brothers or how everything will be resolved. Aemelia Enchanting Reviews 2010

It was really refreshing to read a great adult paranormal book after such a long streak of YA. Don't get me wrong, I love YA, but every now and then I just have to get away from the teen angst and read about mature adults! This book definitely hit the spot. It was action-packed from the first page to the last. I loved the world that was built here. Dagan being a "soul-reaper" was a new concept for me and a great new paranormal type for me to love, and he was just uber-sexy. A compelling storyline that made me keep turning the pages late until the night. The mystery that unfolded throughout had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what has happened and what might happen next. The characters were great. Dagan was a strong, passionate male lead. He knew who he was and what he wanted and did whatever was necessary to make that happen. Roxy was my absolute favorite, she's smart--mouthed and edgy. A strong woman that is a rival for the most bulled-headed male, which I absolutely love. She's confused about what she is, but instead of sitting around whining about the cards that was dealt to her, she takes it all in stride and fights for the answers she wants. This was a great start to the series, great world-building that was revealed along with the action so that you weren't reading page upon page of it and getting bored. We're left with a cliff-hanger, but not one that's so bad it makes you want to smack the author, but definitely has you jonesing to pick up the next in the series. I recommend this one to any paranormal/urban fantasy fan! I can't wait to pick up the next Underkin novel and dive in!

Sins Of The Heart is the first novel that I have read by Eve Silver and it did not disappoint. In fact, I have found my newest paranormal series to obsess over. The story is the first of a trilogy that mixes romance with mystery and a bit of Egyptian mythology. At first, I was confused by all the talk about gods and demigods. But as the story progressed and more was explained (and my inner nerd starting showing), I quickly got the gist of what was going on and was able to enjoy a great read. Dagan is a soul reaper. His job is to harvest dark souls from the most evil and deliver them to the Underworld so that the soul will not be recycled. Ten years ago, Dagan met a teenage Roxy Tam who had been kidnapped and possibly about to be murdered. Dagan was not there to take her soul but was attracted to the feisty young woman like a moth to a flame. He was also fascinated by the fact that no human had ever been able to sense his presence unless he let them. Feeling something that he could not describe, he freed her, killed her captors, instructed her to have a nice safe life, and left her. But since that night he has never been able to stop thinking about her. Roxy was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Despite the reaper claiming to have saved her life, years of unspoken secrets have taken her freedom and cursed her with a fate far worst than death. She too had been unable to get the reaper out of her mind, but payback was high on her agenda and she wouldn't rest until she paid him in full. Years later, Dagan's brother is murdered and he and his remaining brothers will stop at nothing to find the killers and a chance to reincarnate him. Strange events start to unfold as a hot whodunit leaves friends and enemies scrambling for answers. In the process of running down clues, Dagan accidentally crosses paths with Roxy, who is now become his enemy. Dagan crosses the line when he goes after her with a passion even the fires of hell cannot put out. He will give up everything and kill anyone that comes between him and his mate. Dagan is my new book boyfriend because I loved everything about his character. He was dark and dangerous, a true alpha male when duty called. I liked the fact that he gave Roxy her space to do what she needed to do even though his instincts told him differently. Roxy was also a good character. I loved the way she was able to remain strong and independent even though she had the deadliest of creatures stamping a "Mine" sign on her forehead.

It is very well written, I wish there was more to the story. Story is one dimensional and flat. However the romance between the protagonists was what made this book a pleasure to read.

This book was amazing! When I'm in the mood for a PNR book, I'm always hopeful to find one just like this one. I absolutely loved it! One of the biggest draws for me was the forbidden element of the hero and heroine. They should be enemies but the connection made between them was too strong to resist. Their first meeting is indescribable. It was unusual, scary and fascinating. It was brilliant because I won't forget that scene. Out of all the brothers, Dagan seemed the most detached. They aren't human but we expect characters to still have human behavior. He did know love of his brothers and father but it wasn't until Roxy that he truly started to thaw. I enjoyed his struggle to grasp the things she was making him feel. Roxy was just as complex. She tough and standoffish but she's had to be that way. She a woman who feels too much but tamps it down to survive. She was scared of Dagan with good reason but she wanted to trust him all the while telling herself she couldn't. Both of them are after information about one of his brothers deaths. How was it possible to kill someone who can't die, who did it and why. The biggest question is why so many people are after the same little girl. The road to getting it puts them back into each other's paths to face off many threats. The first book only reveals some answers. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger but it does leave you wanting more. I'm looking forward to reading more about the brothers. ARC provided by NetGalley.

I received this book for free from the author for an honest review. Sins of the Heart starts with a story about a girl who was too trusting for her own good. It doesn't look good for her. Until she is given a chance to live. Since that day Roxy is trying to help others. The setting is in modern time with a paranormal twist. Dagan is a Soul Reaper. Roxy is just going through her life wondering why she isn't normal. Dagan is looking for information on what happened to his brother. Little does she know that she is about to learn a whole lot more. The story is part mystery as Roxy tries to figure out why everyone wants a piece of her. The twist is worth the wait. The story is a slight cliffhanger to keep you hooked for the next book in the series. I like this type of series. It keeps me wanting to read the next book to see how it ends up. If you like a book that has mystery, romance and paranormal themes this is a book for you. I will say this is a book for adults. Some of the themes of the book are dark and may upset some people. It doesn't change the fact that is a beautifully written book. I can't wait to see where the story will go next.

Dark, gritty, complex and sexy. Finally another author with a storyline that appeals to a mature, thinking woman. JR Ward, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, and Larrissa Ione has spoiled me, and finding an author to read in between new publishings from these stellar authors has become a chore. But Ms. Silver has definitely got my attention. Bone up on your Egyptian mythos, a new paranormal world for me at least. And brace yourself for some alpha male and FEMALE (thank goodness). This one is well worth the money and time. See you in book 2.?

After finishing the Lords of Underworld, I began looking for books similar to that series. I found a few, and I liked them but none came close to the Lords. I found this book by accident and I'm so glad I did. I have another favorite author now. This book was great,,, just the right mixture of action, suspence and very sexy romance. Sorry Lords... These soul reapers have you beat.. Finished this book in two days...
