Miriam Verbeek was born to Dutch parents in Bandung, Indonesia in 1954 and migrated to Australia as a child. Throughout a career in academia and management consulting, she advocated for environmental and humanitarian causes. She's a mother, homemaker, nature lover and bushwalker, and lives with her partner on the east coast of Australia.

This was an interesting change from the typical things you'd expect to find in this genre. It was good! I was very impressed that the author pulled off this kind of story so well without relying on magic! I was not sure what to expect from this book. It is a little outside my normal reading genres but I am always open to experiencing new things. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this book.
