Katherine Paterson, recently named a "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress, is the author of the Newbery Medal-winning books Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved; the Newbery Honor Book and National Book Award winner The Great Gilly Hopkins; and many other highly acclaimed books. The daughter of missionaries, she spent her early childhood in China before coming to the U.S. where her family moved 18 times within North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. After college Katherine Paterson lived and worked in Japan for four years and then moved back to the U.S. where she married her husband, a Presbyterian pastor. She is the mother of four grown children. Katherine Paterson now lives in Barre, Vermont.
