Certainly a lighting specialist should be in charge, says Reid, but everyone involved with a stage production should know something about lighting. Drawing on his four decades as a professional lighting designer, he discusses some of the possibilities of lighting and how they can be turned into reality under practical stage conditions. He incorporates current technology, including design computers talking directly to light boards, but focuses on the principles that have made the earlier editions staples.
