Purpose: There has been considerable progress in cardiac image analysis techniques, cardiac atlases, and computational models, which integrate data from large scale databases of heart shape, function, and physiology. Several efforts are now established to provide web accessible structural and functional atlases of the normal and pathological heart for clinical, educational, and research purposes. These approaches are only effectively developed through full research scope across imaging and modeling communities. The workshop and the submissions in this book provide a forum of discussion for further development of statistical analysis and computational imaging and modeling of the heart.
Audience: The book is aimed primarily at students, health professionals, and researchers who are looking to enhance their knowledge of further advances in cardiac imaging and statistical models of the heart.

The book is organized into three sections. There is a special focus on two imaging and modeling challenges: motion correction challenge and LV function challenge. Section one, MoCo (motion correction) challenge includes six papers that focus on using rigid and nonrigid registration techniques in correction of motion in dynamic contrast MR imaging and to test the hypothesis that there is no significant difference between the two methods. Section two, LV mechanics challenge includes eight papers that focus on LV mechanics and compare the behavior of different methods to stimulate systolic and diastolic mechanics of the left ventricle. The data include mesh point clouds and binary masks defining LV geometry. Geometrics at all three states of cardiac cycle are given, diastasis, end-diastole, and end systole. This enables discussion of which boundary and what assumption should be made for heart stiffness and contractility. Section three contains 14 papers containing state-of-art cardiac image analysis techniques, computational models that integrate data from large-scale databases of heart shape, and heart function and physiology.
Assessment: This is a valuable resource for those interested in keeping abreast of the latest advances in cardiac imaging statistical models and will serve to accelerate progress in the important area of heart structure and functional analysis.
