Step by Step is intended to assist learners in their first steps in the long journey of mastering the Bulgarian language and to give them some basic information about Bulgarian culture and lifestyle. Designed for beginners, Step by Step aims to cover survival language competencies, key vocabulary and basic grammar structures for level A1. The Manual consists of 12 units and each unit includes: - Vocabulary - the new vocabulary is introduced with pictures, followed by excercises; - Grammar - the main grammar rules are given in the form of tables and model structures, followed by exercises; - Dialogues - the language competencies are presented through dialogues; - Listening activity - the script is provided at the end of the manual; - Text - the new vocabulary and grammar is included as well as some additional vocabulary items related to the topic of the unit. The Manual has three appendixes: - Listening Script - script of all listening activities; - Culture notes - some information about Bulgarian culture and lifestyle; - Wordlist - the new vocabulary translated into English. In addition to the Manual learners can use a Workbook which includes exercises with an answer key for practicing the new vocabulary, grammar and language competencies presented in the units as well as some new dialogues and short texts. The Workbook has two appendixes: - Pronunciation and Spelling Guide - introduction of some pronunciation and spelling rules; - Grammar Reference - introduction of the grammar rules through charts and explanation in English.

About the Author

Radost Sabeva is a Bulgarian language instructor and cross-cultural facilitator who has been working with a broad range of foreign learners of the Bulgarian language for more than 20 years. She has worked with various embassies and foreign offices in Sofia as well as with individual learners and groups from many countries and nationalities. Radost is a graduate of St. St. Cyril and Methodius University, Veliko Tarnovo and has an MA in Bulgarian Linguistics with a Minor in History. Margarita Andonova is a Bulgarian Language Instructor who has been teaching Bulgarian to foreigners for more than 30 years. She has worked at New Bulgarian University, Sofia, and Institute for Foreign Students, Sofia and taught Bulgarian at Bulgarian Red Cross and various language centers. Margarita is a graduate of St. St. Cyril and Methodius University, Veliko Tarnovo and St. Kliment Ohridski University, Sofia and has an MA in Bulgarian Linguistics with a Minor in History and an MA in Spanish Studies. Zhana Zagorova has an MA in Russian Studies from Sofia University and an MBA in Marketing from the City University of Seattle. She also holds a post-graduate certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Zhana has worked as a lecturer, teacher, and examiner at various universities and language centers in Sofia, Bulgaria where she taught Bulgarian to foreigners, English and Russian to young and adult learners from beginner to advanced levels and facilitated trainings on cross-cultural communication.
