Stories Behind the U.S. State Borders: How they were established and surveyed
Who decided where our state borders would be located? How did they make those decisions? Are there legal descriptions of these borders? Did the surveyors mark the borders in the correct locations? The stories begin with the early European explorers who braved the crossing of the Atlantic to navigate new shores and claim the New World for their kings. Later, colonial charters began to lay out borders on the Continent. Eventually, the United States Congress legislated borders between states. Loaded with maps and illustrations, "Stories Behind the U.S. State Borders" includes not only the legal basis for our borders, but also tells the stories behind those borders. Included inside are the origins of our borders, the difficulties encountered by early surveyors, and even the fist fights that broke out over border locations. "Stories Behind the U.S. State Borders" is a blend of a reference book and a historical story collection.

About the Author

Terry Golden’s fascination with maps began in his childhood as he collected and studied the road maps supplied free of charge at nearly every gasoline station in America. Over the years Terry’s interest in maps and the stories behind them has never waned. The research into “State Borders” began as a hobby and developed into the completed book. Terry holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and worked for 33 years at a major integrated oil company. Today he is an ordained minister and a police chaplain and writes for fun in his spare time.
