Overview

As a charter member of S.T.O.R.M. at the Atkinson dojo, I personally have seen this team progress from its embryonic stage of a fun group of teens giving a helping hand to a large, highly-trained group of young martial artists who are instrumental in developing talented Uechi Black Belts. I started my Uechi training many years ago. To this day, I have never had a dull moment. However, the adventures seemed to multiply when I was asked to join S.T.O.R.M. My only hope is that all the new members can also learn and enjoy from this team the way I have.Uechiryu, as well as the rest of the Martial Arts world, is rapidly changing. More people are training. Younger practitioners are achieving levels of proficiency never before believed possible. This is a reflection of the increased level of instruction. Therefore, I firmly believe that the members of S.T.O.R.M., along with the Assistant Instructors and Instructors, are the people who are shaping.... THE FUTURE OF UECHIRYU.

About the Author

Marcus Traynor has been a student under Grandmaster Buzz Durkin for the past twenty-five years. Twenty of those years he has been the Head Instructor of Buzz Durkin's Uechi Karate School.

As such Marcus Traynor, in addition to his teaching duties, has been in charge of the organization and execution of the Instructor's training program and the Black Belt Testing process for the entire Uechiryu Butokukai.

In 2007 Marcus Traynor organized the Uechi Butokukai S.T.O.R.M. For the purpose of heightening the standards of the Junior and Adult instructors.

Currently, Marcus Traynor holds the rank of Rokudan and lives in Auburn, NH, with his wife Jess and two kids: Bella and Henry
