About the Author

Born and raised in New York City, Käla Mandrake began a career in photography, shooting individuals from Manhattan’s avant-garde scene, as a teenager. In 2010, she had a book of these photographs published. After going back to school to study film, media and music, she began working as writer, producer and editor for television (HBO, BBC) as well as editor and writer for feature films and documentaries (The Brainwashing of My Dad). She is currently working on a performative documentary about her paternal grandfather, the world-famous stage performer, Mandrake the Magician, and has an annual online magazine and blog entitled, Mandrake Magazine, inspired by her grandfather.
