3.5 for me. Seemed somewhere between a mix of a cozy mystery with some Christianity thrown in. You have to keep reading in order for the characters to be fully identified and their relationships shown. It was a bit confusing to start reading dialogue and wonder who is that?did I miss them and you go back and see that , no, they haven't been mentioned before, then wa la, three pages over you find out who they are and relation to the main characters. Their faith and life isn't developed fully and mentioned in later portions of the book with the exception of a few 'I'll pray for you' notations along the way. The mystery/ suspense portion holds your interest bit gets bogged down and slow at times. Overall a good, easy read, just didn't feel it reached the potential on several fronts. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC. I received this book as a complimentary copy. The opinions expressed are my own.

"Strands of Truth" was an enjoyable story. The overarching story focuses on the secrets that DNA testing can reveal and the lengths people will go to protect their families, even if their actions are criminal. The subplot focuses on Harper Taylor and Ridge Jackson. Ridge's father, Oliver, a wealthy businessman, had been a mentor to Harper since she was found on their property at age fifteen, having run away from the latest abusive foster family. Ridge had long believed that Harper was taking advantage of his father and he was displeased that Oliver was providing financial help with Harper's latest project, but he had been unable to find the proof to convince his father that she was not trustworthy. However, Harper and Ridge were going to have to spend more time together, as Oliver had come up with a business plan that involved Ridge running a lab doing research on mollusks for medicinal purposes, with the focus initially on the pen shells that Harper was growing and harvesting. Yet, Harper and Ridge find themselves spending even more time together after Oliver and Harper are attacked, and Oliver ends up in critical condition. Then Annabelle, who Harper had discovered was her half-sister, was also attacked, and the incidents, and later events, seemed to more than a coincidence. Having the story focus on a connection revealed through DNA testing, with the two women searching for the identity of their father, was a good choice considering the prevalence of personal DNA testing and the potential for such testing to reveal unpleasant surprises. I liked the discussion of trust and God's grace, and displaying grace towards others that was a major part of the Harper/Ridge storyline and the more general Jackson family storyline. The author created some good surprising events in the story. Well worth the read. I received a review copy via NetGalley.

Colleen Coble has another best seller with this book, Stands of Truth. the book has romance, plenty of suspense, beautiful Florida coast and page-turning excitement. You also see examples of forgiveness and second-chances. Harper has your support from page one. She came from a hard life as a child and yet she wasn’t a bitter person. She spent so much of her childhood seeking love that wasn’t offered but found a way to make it in life. She is a gutsy, independent woman who thanks to her mentor, Oliver, was making her way in life. As the story unfolds, you see Oliver’s son, Ridge realize that his past feelings of jealousy and doubt were changing and he saw Harper in a new exciting way. Throughout the book you are also receiving clues and flash-backs of two murders. Harper’s mother was murdered and her half-sister’s mother was also. They had recently found out they were half-sisters through DNA testing. The two questioned whether the murders were coincidental or connected somehow. There are so many twist and turns that keep you guessing to the end. I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Strands of Truth is another thrilling winner from author Colleen Coble. Having read a few other books by Coble, I was looking forward to reading this one and was not disappointed. Romance and suspense are a hard combination to beat. There is lots of action with some twists and turns in this multi-layered story where past murders are connected to the present dangers. It was hard to put the book down. Who would think that doing a DNA test could lead to danger and even death? Harper longed for a family--to be where someone loved her no matter what. Ridge doesn't quite trust Harper and yet knows she needs his help. Would they find who was targeting her before it was too late? And would they perhaps find love too? Strong characters, a fast-moving plot that kept me guessing to the end and a sweet romance all come together to make this a book readers who love romantic suspense stories will not want to miss. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit. A favorable review was not required and opinions are my own. This review is part of a CelebrateLit blog tour.

My thoughts on Strands of Truth: Strands of Truth will keep you on the edge of your seat! Such an amazing read that I cannot recommend to everyone enough! Get it now! Wow. This book is so suspenseful. You don’t know what is going to happen next. It just keeps moving along at a fast clip and you’re along for the ride. Don’t read when you’re home alone on a dark and stormy night or you might just find yourself jumping at every noise and lightning strike. I’ve long been a fan of Colleen Coble and knew that I would love this book. Her writing just captivates you and holds you in a spell so that you can’t get away from it. This one is the same. I could not have even begun to figure out what was going on at the beginning but I had it figured out by the time the ending came. Such an intense mystery that is full of suspense and nail-biting. I loved watching the two main characters come to a place where they could actually get over their differences and be understanding of each other. Maybe they’ll even become close? I also watched seeing relationships unfold and how showing understanding and kindness can change people. Such good lessons within this suspense book! Definitely, one I recommend and would read again myself. You feel sorry for and want to bring justice down upon certain people at the same time. Get your copy today. You won’t regret reading this book! I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. She's done it again! Colleen Coble is that author you know you can count on. Her writing is consistently amazing. This book follows that description perfectly. I loved the characters and their back stories were unique and interesting. The setting is beachy balmy and makes you want to visit, kinda. The plot moved along well and kept me interested the entire time. I didn't feel like I knew who-done-it early in the book either, which is a huge plus! I don't like it when you can guess the end at the beginning. This is not one of those books. It is however, a book that makes you not want to clean you house, not want to go to bed, not want to watch tv... I had to just keep reading! That's the sign of a great book. You're not going to want to miss this amazing story. The faith aspects are minimal, maybe to the point of wanting some more. They're definitely not in your face at all. I gave this book 4 stars. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. I was in no way required to write a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

I have read quite a few of Colleen Coble's books and loved many of them, but this book is my favorite so far. The author is well-known for her complex plot, heart-pounding suspense, the gasp-inducing "that's who the villain is?" moment, easy-to-read writing, and deeply layered characters. She doesn't skimp on any of these in this book for sure. If you enjoy fast-moving romantic suspense that will suck you in from page one, you will totally love this book. The book opens with a flashback and the flashbacks are peppered throughout the book to coincide with the current day investigations so that the readers are more aware of the meaning and importance behind what Harper and Ridge find. Though Harper and Ridge have been at odds since teenage years, they must pull together their resources and wits to try to figure out how the attacks on Ridge's father who is also Harper's mentor and champion, the attacks on Harper herself, and the attacks on Harper's newly found half sister Annabelle may be related. The plot is so well-crafted and well-executed that confusion with all the different information and dead ends leads slowly to understanding as strands of truth are pulled out from the muddy past and laid out to be seen without causing frustration on the reader's part because things don't seem to make sense at first. I'm not sure if this book is a stand alone or a part of a series but I would love to read more about Ridge's sister Willow and Harper's nephew Scott! I received a copy of the book from Thomas Nelson via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Strands of Truth may just be Colleen Coble's best work to date. This riveting, suspenseful drama will keep readers glued to the page as they work they try and solve the complex mystery that starts right from the very first pages. Harper Taylor has always felt alone. Her mother died shortly after giving birth to her, and she found herself being bounced around from foster home to foster home. A chance encounter with a successful businesman, Oliver Jackson, as a bitter teen gives her the support system she's always wanted, but she knows that the rest of his family doesn't feel the same way about her that he does. As an adult, Harper has become interested in mollusks and pen beds, and Oliver has become her business partner and greatest supporter. As the head of a successful pharmaceutical company, Oliver sees potential in the mollusks as ingredients for successful medications. He approaches Harper and his son Ridge with the idea of them working together on the project, and while both are hesitant to want anything to do with each other, they decide to go ahead with the project since it means so much to Oliver. Around her mollusk research, Harper has also decided to take part in DNA testing, to see if she has any biological relatives from the family members she grew up knowing nothing about. The results reveal that she has a half-sister named Annabelle, who's quite a bit older than Harper, and the two women are over the moon when they finally get the chance to meet. However, the meeting also seems to open a can of worms, and soon both women are at the end of attempted kidnappings, break in attempts, and druggings. Annabelle's mother also died when she was an infant, and soon Harper is wondering if there is more to her mom's story than what she always believed. With the help of Ridge, and Annabelle's two sons, the two sisters will stop at nothing to discover what's truly going on, but the consequences may be more than either is prepared for. I've read a lot of Colleen Coble's books over the years, and I've enjoyed each and every one. However, this one really stood out for just how unique the story line, the setting, and the mystery were. DNA testing is becoming all the rage; and it was really interesting to read a story about the negative outcomes that can come to light when such information that's been hidden for so many years is finally brought to the surface. I also really enjoyed learning about Harper and Ridge's work with mollusks, and the process of how sea silk is woven and made into usable materials. I always appreciate with Colleen's books that the faith element always plays an integral role; and I found it extremely refreshing that both Harper and Ridge turn to their faith in times of doubt and trial, rather than relying entirely on their own devices. I have to comment on just how much I enjoyed the romance as well. The slow burn element worked perfectly with this couple, and I especially appreciated the way that the friendship emerging between the two of them also helps to heal the hurts they experienced growing up jealous of one another as teenagers. I loved this one and can't thank Thomas Nelson and NetGalley enough for the opportunity to get to advance read this. I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not required to give a positive review.

This is a fantastic romantic suspense novel. I loved the twists and turns throughout the book. I really enjoyed learning a little bit about the marine animals and mollusks and the sea silk. It is so interesting to see what uses DNA testing can have in this world. Sad to know it can be used for evil as well as for good. I loved the characters and the use of going back to the past to learn about some of the story. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Thrilling suspense and family drama hold the readers’ interest and make them wonder who and how and why. . . . The multiple threads and exciting plot weave this masterful mystery to life, pulling the past into the future and twisting them together, and more so as the time-slip story continues. The title fits the tale well. The characters seem real and develop naturally on the pages. Two women who could be half-sisters both lost their mothers when they were babies. This novel shows something that might possibly happen using DNA information to find a relative. I enjoyed the book and raced through it to see how it ended. Plenty of intrigue and surprises. The value of human life is emphasized in the story. You could consider this a different type of beach read since the story includes shoreline scenes. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

Romantic suspense at its best I received a complimentary copy of this book. The views expressed in this review are my own. Harper is taken under the wing by Oliver when she is fifteen. His two children Willow and Ridge always resented that he spent so much time helping Harper. Harper, with Oliver's help is growing mollusks for the black pearls and selling the meat to restaurants. Oliver decides to build a lab to study the medical effects of mollusks. He wants his son Ridge to work together on this project. Ridge doesn't want to at first, but he does for his father. When his father is attacked and Harper almost kidnapped he helps her find out who is behind it. Working together they grow close and fall in love with each other, but not before she is kidnapped and he has to save her life. This was an interesting book, had great characters and a good storyline. I liked learning about the Mollusks and the sea silk. I also enjoyed the part where she met her half sister Annabelle. It was good to see Ridge reunite with his estranged sister Willow and for her to accept Harper. The book had some very exciting scenes in it and some romantic times as well. I thought the black pearl in the engagement ring was a good touch. I enjoyed reading the book and look forward to reading more from this author. I recommend this book.

Strands of truth Someone is after Harper and Annabelle. The story is full of suspense of who is after them. Of course, we don’t know who it is until the very end. It all goes back to the past to do with their mother’s. Both their mothers die tragically. Harper and Annabelle just recently find each other. The book is full of suspense, and mystery. I never did figure out what who was doing it out. The author did a good job in keeping me in suspense. I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. This review is my my own opinion.

Colleen Coble never disappoints with her action packed suspense, and her newest delivery meets her high standards. This is a story you can't read slowly as the action builds with every page. Harper Taylor has grown up as a loner having been shuffled from one foster family to another until she finally is taken under Oliver Taylor's wing as a runaway teenager. He pours his love for the ocean and its gifts into Harper and she becomes fascinated with marine biology. But she still longs for a family of her own. When a DNA test reveals a half-sister, her life changes because suddenly she and her half-sister find themselves unknowingly in danger. I particularly enjoyed the generational research that Harper and Ridge, Oliver's son, had to do in order to trace their way back to Harper and Annabelle's unknown father. Following the threads to put the puzzle together was fascinating. The slowly developing relationship between Harper and Ridge along with her new relationship with Annabelle and her sons added a sweet dimension. Coble's characters were interesting and likable; and this, along with some interesting settings, added to a mystery that took the entire book to untangle. **I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions are mine alone. I was not compensated for this review. (less)

Strands of Truth by Colleen Coble brings a fresh setting for a romantic suspense adventure. Told in snippets of split-time fashion, this novel will have you kicking your heels and gasping for air as you learn about pen shell beds that Harper and Ridge collaborate on. With key themes of family or lack thereof, relationships and trust, many readers can find common ground with the protagonists. Coble makes it easy to learn spiritual lessons, presenting truth plainly and succinctly, without slowing the action. The storylines are woven together beautifully, like the beautifully spun sea silk. There are some great twists and turns in this novel. Coble writes suspense so effectively I still feel the jangling of my emotions and a sense of loss, which will need some time to settle. If you love Christian romantic suspense blended with diving tales and mermaids, detailed via split-time; you will enjoy Colleen Coble’s Strands of Truth. I was given a complimentary copy of this novel from the author and publisher via NetGalley. No positive review was required.

Suspense! Tragedy! Loneliness! Love! I had to keep turning another page! Harper Taylor has never known anything about her father. Her mother died when she was an infant and she was raised by her drug addict grandmother until she was placed in foster care. Harper does DNA testing in hopes of finding some relative but then strange events start happening! You will root for Harper to find a relative to love her! Ridge has never trusted Harper even though his father is her mentor and business partner. Now Ridge questions why he has had such negative feelings towards Harper. I loved Strands of Truth! It is another winner by Colleen Coble! I recommend this book to others. I received a complimentary e-book through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

Strands of Truth is a story about Harper Taylor, a young woman who grew up in the foster care system after her mother died in a mysterious car accident. Harper has always longed for family connection, having never known either of her parents, and has had a DNA test done to try to find family members, maybe even her father. Her search seems to be the starting point for a series of attacks. When Oliver, her mentor, business partner, and father-figure, is involved in an attack, his son, Ridge, gets involved. Ridge has always disliked Harper, believing that she uses his father for his money, but working together to unravel this mystery shows him a different side of Harper, one that begins to change his mind about her. I enjoyed Strands of Truth. I’ve read all of Colleen Coble’s books, and I like how she ties in something as currently popular as DNA testing in this one, and not just the potential that it has to help people connect, but the potential it may have to lead to hurt (in a rather dark and twisted way). In that way, it was a unique and original story line. And as always, I appreciate that I can count on her writing to be clean and to have some focus on Christian values, particularly trust, forgiveness, and grace in this book. Her characters were easy to like and to relate to, and over all, I thought Strands of Truth was a good read. *I received a complimentary copy of this book. Strands of Truth is a stand alone romantic suspense novel. Having your DNA analyzed is a popular thing to do these days and it has really gotten inexpensive to do. Harper Taylor has been alone since her mother after giving birth to her prematurely. She is successful as a marine biologist. She has her DNA and finds she has a half sister who is about 20 years older than her. She quickly bonds with Annabelle and finds out Annabelle's mother also died when Annabelle was an infant. Annabelle was about 5 months old. Were both women murdered? Neither woman has any clue who their mutual father is. As Harper comes closer to the truth both women's lives are in danger. I thought one person was behind all the was going on but I was wrong and it was somebody else. I loved it that the author was able to stump me. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

“The examination table was cold and hard under her back as Harper Taylor looked around the room.” Opening line of Strands of Truth by Colleen Coble From the cover, I knew this book would be fast-paced and suspenseful, I wasn’t wrong. In true Colleen Coble style, Strands of Truth had me enraptured from the prologue to the final page. Though this is a stand-alone novel, I grew so attached to the characters’ journey, I’d have loved it to go on, Harper believes she has no family and leans into father-figure, Oliver, in her teenage years. As she matures, she continues to work with him. Ridge, Oliver’s son, begrudges the attention paid to Harper and is shocked when his father sets them to work together. Curious about her biological father, Harper uses an online DNA test and database to connect with her half-sister Annabelle. The two share more than blood, both of their mothers died under suspicious circumstances. When Oliver lands up in hospital after an attack, Ridge and Harper come together with Annabelle to weave the truth together. Full of danger, unexpected turns and mystery, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The characters are so well thought through, even the villain has a great story, they are easy to connect with and understand. Assumptions are challenged as the story progresses and it’s interesting to see each character handle the changes. It’s a five out of five on the en-JOY-ment scale and highly recommended.

I’ve only read one other Colleen Coble book before STRANDS OF TRUTH, but I know for sure, this won’t be my last one! She hooked me from the very first page and never let me go! Colleen sure knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat while reading and I love when an author does that to me. Two women die in very different circumstances twenty years apart. Many years later, during a DNA test, their adult daughters find out that they are half sisters. Can the story get any stranger than that? Oh yes it can, but you are going to have to read STRANDS OF TRUTH to find out. No spoilers here! As Annabelle and Harper try to figure out the connection between their two mothers, someone tries to kidnap each of them. The twists and turns just keep coming. So much so, that you won’t be able to put STRANDS OF TRUTH DOWN until the very end. You will learn a lot about Harper’s career as a marine biologist as well as sea silk. At least I did. You will also see how the main characters learn to trust and forgive throughout this suspenseful tale and you will be cheering for them to figure it all out. I thought I knew who was trying to get them, but of course, I was wrong! My emotions were all over the place while reading and as soon as I was finished, I immediately checked my book shelves for more of Colleen’s stories. I have quite a few and am excited to get to them. Overall, STRANDS OF TRUTH is a book I can say nothing but fantastic things about. There is so much heart in Colleen’s writing that I was left with a huge smile on my face and my heart, very happy. All of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a long time. I look forward to reading Ms. Coble’s previous books that I haven’t gotten to yet as well as her future ones. There is so much going on in this story, but Colleen does a wonderful job of weaving all the pieces together. All of the characters will have you feeling sad and then smiling on the same page. Once you finish devouring this story, you are going to want to tell everyone you know about this awesome book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from CelebrateLit through Netgalley. 'Sometimes our biggest heartaches bring the most blessings.' Colleen Coble never fails to write a great story with a mystery that totally engulfs her readers. This one is full of fun, intrigue and a mystery that will snag your attention from the first page. I never came close to guessing the culprit! Coble delves into the world of DNA with this one and how it affects her story is very interesting indeed. The author does a great job of writing intriguing stories that have you guessing till the end. Harper is a complex character and at times I wasn't sure if she would ever be happy. It was very hard for her growing up and her desire to be part of a family has always be high on her list. In a strange twist Harper discovers some background about her mother and possible half sister. I loved when the story went back to the late 1960's and highlighted Judy and her time as a mermaid. I do remember watching shows where you saw young women swimming in this large tank looking like mermaids. A lot of the time it was at restaurants or special attractions. Judy's death may not be as innocent as it was played up to be all those years ago. I really wanted to stay in this period a bit longer because it fascinated me how these women were in the water for long periods of time. There were times when I wasn't sure if Ridge and Harper would ever get along. After all, Ridge's dad took Harper under his wing and thought of her as a daughter. As Ridge and Harper start digging deeper into Harper's past, danger finds them. Unexplained deaths start happening and someone is out to stop Harper. What secret would cause someone to kill? Harper does have a hard time trusting people which dampens her friendship with Ridge. When Harper reveals something to Ridge, it shakes him to the core. I was just as shocked as him. There is a part towards the end of the story that I didn't like at all. It has to do with Harper and the person who kidnaps her. What he says to her was distasteful and I wish the author would not have included it at all. The rest of the story is fast paced and has a great ending. The secret that Harper shares with Ridge makes for a great lesson in forgiveness and the need to feel wanted. Rejection is something that Harper has dealt with all her life. Will Ridge be able to accept her confession? I loved when Ridge said to Harper; " The right time for the truth is every minute of every day." Those are profound words that we should be practicing every day. The story is a wonderful journey to finding truth, depending on God and learning to trust. The ending is excellent and it answers all questions posed during the book. I was quite surprised at who the killer was. It deals with DNA testing that I find interesting. I have often thought about doing a test to find out about my heritage. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Talk about twists and turns! I had absolutely no clue what would happen next, or who was trying to cause Harper harm. That didn’t stop Coble from having me guessing who could be behind all the craziness. This book was a total page turner. It was interesting watching characters who knew each other from the past get to know each other as adults. Often kids do crazy things, and it’s easy to judge people based on that, but we all have to grow up someday right? It was fun seeing a common goal draw two such seemingly different people together. Ridge grew up not knowing need, and Harper was just the opposite. When Oliver is attacked they have no choice but to join forces to find answers. The story they uncover will take your breath away. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Mystery and Suspense. It kept me turning pages until the very end. I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishing and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Colleen Coble grabs you by the collar and yanks you into a story that practically plays out live right before your eyes. Her vivid descriptions creates a world that feels like one I've lived in for life (and I've never lived near the water or sand!). I loved that this book provided more than an outlet for entertainment but gave some incredible information that educated me in regards to the mollusks and sea silk.  Harper has a great relationship with Oliver, yet I completely understood how the DNA pulled her to find a half sister. The similarities in their mother's deaths and other situations places you in full-on questioning mode. I enjoyed how Ridge's disdain turns as he begins to learn more about Harper. He begins to feel the need to comfort and protect her -- definitely my favorite interior story line of the book! Coble did an amazing job at weaving strands of truth into a mystery, suspense, and romance novel that I thoroughly enjoyed! I was a little late to the game, I suppose, when I realized how many of the situations in the book were pictured as "strands". I received a copy of this book for reviewing purposes from PICT. From the first page to the last, Strands of Truth is a chilling, nonstop rollercoaster ride of murder and mystery. Set against the unique backdrop of malacology (yes, I looked that one up too!) and the dying art of creating with sea silk, Coble explores the murky what ifs that modern science can sometimes leave in its wake. The main characters, Harper and Ridge, are relatable people, struggling to overcome real issues while battling to stay alive. This book will keep you up late, piecing together the strands of truth while looking over your shoulder at every creak and bump in the night. *I received a complimentary copy of this book.
