Overview

Prejudice. It's a serious problem whether you're on the giving or receiving end, no matter what kind it is--race, gender, age, status, wealth, looks or ability. It's serious not only because of the damage it does to all parties, but because we block what God wants to give us and what we need--his power and peace. Sandra L. Barnes helps us sort out why prejudice is unfair, what feeds our prejudices, how to overcome prejudice and how to avoid being victimized by discrimination. She brings together both theological insight and sociological research to help us recognize and disarm our prejudices and to bring healing to our broken personal and societal relationships.

Dr. George Yancey

"Barnes has made accessible to nonacademics important, well-researched insights surrounding the prevalence of prejudice in our society. This clear and readable book will help Christians to think more wholistically about how to deal with individual and societal prejudice."

Jenell Williams Paris

"Sandra Barnes's work is fully intelligent and fully Christian, and her insights are both smart and wise. This holistic book is an essential read for Christians committed to understanding prejudice and making change."

Stephen C. Rasor

"Prejudice continues to exist and flourish in our society and world. It fosters guilt among some groups and shame among others. Dr. Sandra Barnes helps the Christian community see the problem as well as move toward transformation."

Curtiss Paul DeYoung

"Dr. Sandra L. Barnes effectively translates the insights of sociology into the language of theology in order to set us free from prejudice. This book reaches the hearts of Christian believers in the pew and in the classroom by speaking words of God's peace both to those sincerely struggling to overcome attitudes of prejudice and those painfully demeaned by ugly bigotry. True reconciliation becomes possible as we subvert the power of prejudice in the lives of individuals and in the climate of society."
