About the Author

"Growing up as a little Black girl from Selma, AL, I was born and raised in a small country town called Sardis, AL. With my mother, dad, and two other siblings, I grew up singing in the church choir, attending Sunday services, and volunteering with youth Bible study. As a young girl, I would often find myself being very distant and quiet. I was always afraid of being judged because I did not feel like I fit in, not just with other kids but also with my family. I graduated from the local high school in 2006, where I met my late husband. We got married two years after finishing high school and had three blessed, healthy, beautiful children together. I was a stay-at-home wife for eight years."
