Dork Diaries 13

Just imagine a FABULOUS and FUN bash at the Westchester Country Club with a band, DJ, all-you-can-eat pizza, ice-cream sundae bar, two hundred of my closest friends, my loyal BFFs, my adorkable CRUSH, and a humongous birthday cake.

Everything is SO unbelievably PERFECT, I need to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. OUCH!! That hurt! (I just pinched myself!)

The GOOD NEWS is that not even my mortal FRENEMY, MacKenzie Hollister, can RUIN the most AMAZING day of my entire life !

The BAD NEWS is that I was totally WRONG about the GOOD NEWS ! . . .

Actually, i agree with you. Do NOT throw your future away just for a boy. But you forgot something. Nikkis also going with her bffs. And isnt it a world tour( or something like that)? I might do it( even though i love art) because i can always go when im older. But dont please throw away your future at fourteen/fifteen all for a boy you probably wont be with in the future. Thats all. Peace!-cc

I find this so deeply aggravating. *ONE LAST SPOILER WARNING* Nikki could spend her summer in Paris, France, at the Louvre to study art, her passion. Instead of going to Paris to study, she decides to turn down the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so she can go on tour with a band of her three middle school best friends. Namely, her huge “adorkable” crush Brandon Roberts, whom she thinks she could possibly be in love with. I think this is such a bad, common message for teenagers and tweenagers across the world: do NOT throw YOUR future away for a BOY. Call me selfish, self-centered, and only out for myself— just don’t expect me to declare my love for a boy, and then throw away opportunities such as studying my passion abroad so I can spend my summer hanging out with him. I’m sorry, Rachel Rene Russel, but the I-would-throw-away-my-future-for-the-boy-I-love-at-fifteen-or-fourteen-because-we-will-be-together-forever message is one that I AM SICK AND TIRED OF HEARING. I think she should be more concerned with telling teens and tweens to follow their dreams and seek their passions in life, not that “love conquers all” and “I want to fall in love” message that is in every book. This is coming from a tweenish-teenish girl who is a fan of the DD series. It just makes me so aggravated to watch a girl throw away her future and the brightest, most promising opportunities in it, and there is nothing I can do to intervene... ... because it is a book series. But still, I’d like to see a different message in just one of the books I read. I’m sorry, maybe I am selfish— but I’m not going to do life Nikki’s way and throw away my future. Girls my age should remember to do the same. On the good side: The book was hilarious. Actually really laugh out loud funny. Read it if you’re looking for a laugh!
