About the Author

John Williams was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and grew up near Three Mile Island. He worked on a flower farm and completed a four-year apprenticeship as an electrician for Bethlehem Steel at its historic Steelton plant. After working in property management in South Florida, John realized he had exhausted his education and entered law school. For the past 40 years, John has practiced as a Board Certified family lawyer, a mediator, and parent coordinator, and owned and operated various businesses. John has enjoyed serving in various capacities in his community. John says, "I have seen and learned some interesting things along the way: 1. The nature of my work causes me to work with people when they are in trouble. We really are more alike than we are different. Human minds and hearts struggle with pretty much the same topics in a surprisingly consistent manner. 2. For many years I thought that getting rid of the bad in the world was the way to go. Now I realize adding good to the world is a better way to travel. 3. I have learned that words matter - which ones we choose, how many we choose, and how we present them. Tillie's words and pictures are designed to amuse, inspire, and provoke thought in a nonviolent way; in other words, to add good to the world. 4. It seems that our society favors logic over feeling. I have come to the conclusion that feelings are an essential, valuable, and inescapable part of the human experience. Animals, being free of this cultural bias, have the ability to touch parts of our selves that can be difficult to access otherwise. Their special way of being present has helped me to become aware of the role that our minds play in our experience. 5. My life is an adventure. I am grateful for everything and everyone I have encountered, as they have all played a role helping me be who I am and where I am today. I would not have it any other way."

Anne Munson is one of Tillie's biggest fans, and raises funds for nonprofits in Tallahassee, Florida. She is sure her rescue dog Harry has quite a lot to tell her about the world, but being a male dog, he just doesn't say much.
