This third edition, published 13 years after thesecond, is a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms, physiology,classifications, treatment, and prognosis of trauma to the orofacialapparatus. The purpose is to educate oral surgeons and dentists aboutorofacial trauma, which is a very worthy objective. I believe it meetsand surpasses the authors' objectives. The audience for this book isoral and maxillofacial surgeons and dentists. The authors both haveexcellent credentials and have drawn from the expertise of otherprofessionals as well as their own. The book contains superb colordrawings and black-and-white x-rays. The references are up-to-date. Thetable of contents and index are adequate. This book is a work of art,with exceptional graphics and chapter summations, and it is of acomprehensive nature. This third edition is far more in-depth thanthe second, adding new areas such a physiology, dealing with softtissue injuries, and prognosis of traumatic injuries. This is the mostcomprehensive text written on this subject and should be in any librarywhere one may need information on dental trauma. It is much betterthan the second edition and easily justifies replacingit.
