With a stolen experimental starship and a pair of advanced synthetic limbs, Hunter isn't an average bounty hunter.

"A gunslinger adventure with good, clean fun!"

When he accepted the job on a backwater planet, Hunter thought it would be easy. He and his partner just had to track down a missing researcher. But when they find her, she's fled a quarter of the way around the massive ring of twenty-seven gates and Hunter realizes all is not as he was told.

That simple realization, and Hunter's drive for retribution, kick off a series of adventures leading to the most important discovery since the fall of the Gate Age—and put him in direct confrontation with the corp he's been running from for the past 10 revolutions.

Set in a far distant future, The 28th Gate is a series of tales that will appeal of fans who like space marines, space fleets, and military hard science fiction. The series consists of eight volumes spread across four seasons telling the story of Hunter's struggles against the AAA corporation that created him. Each volume contains six episodic novelettes each with the action, character, and plotting of a complete story all crammed into an espresso-like package, while each season chronicles a different arc in the overall epic.

This is an interesting book with some new ideas, or at least variants on older ideas with a fresh perspective. I am looking forward to reading the new books. There is a vast multitude of room to make one or more series based on this book.

A whole lot of fun!

I felt the author spent a little too much time in descriptions which slowed the flow...(three pages to describe Hunter cutting into a hidden compartment in his synthetic arm..)

I really liked this book it has a lot of techno and planetary action, spaceship action. I like the authors descripted terminolgy of weapons that was awesome. I like how the main character does get shot at and it makes contact I'm glad he has force fields and vest. Its hard when u read scifi characters and they always kill and die off ,I like how this main character just stuns them, its a nice change to see characters survive thru the story line....will be buying the next book in this series.......thank you for this storyline........vw

Great character development. Gives you pieces as the story develops. Not too much to make the story predictable, but enough to keep you guessing as to what Hunter, Katherine, or Gloria are going to do next. Looking forward to next book in the series.

Wished it was a bit more intense. Battles and encounters were over too quicky.

Focussed on weapons not story or characters. Good for what it is but not on my wish list. Serialized but not actual cliffhangers.

What stands out about this author is that he has the ability to start up an adventure and then get right to the point without a lot of excess ramblings. Background gets inserted into the stories so one gets a looksee at the past which helps with the present. He also has another rarity with short story authors in that he wraps up the story with a good ending along with a teaser into the next adventure. Bind up several action packed stories in a short book and you have a enjoyable evening or two to savor.

Main character is a futuristic space "outlaw" , who does bounty hunting in his stolen ship while nursing revenge for the corporation that made him an amnesiac cyborg supersoldier. After saving a scientist targeted for assassination who opts to stay on board and use her skills to help him & his partner, we start to see other sides of his personality develop. Lots of adventure! I recommend this, even though I could do without the extensive details of the weaponry.
