The first book in the series has our cat and bird, Bubba and Boo, respectively, exploring their new neighborhood shortly after moving to Marshall Township. When Bubba and Boo finally meet the beaver, whose name is Matilda, Bubba and Boo ask for help from their new friends as they assist Matilda with a problem she has not been able to manage on her own. Grateful for Bubba and Boo's leadership in solving her problem, Matilda nicknames Bubba and Boo "Captain Cutie Pie" and "Deputy Boo." The neighborhood friends agree these are fitting nicknames for our heroes.
