Learning the sounds of the alphabet is, for most, a skill learnt early in education; it is our experience that this is not always the case. It takes tremendous courage for people to come forward to seek help with reading and writing and they are deserving of resources suitable for, and respectful of, them The inspiration for this book came from the challenge to source age-appropriate material. This book has been created for students and the people who work with them. We hope that its use of photographs of real objects will appeal to and motivate beginners of any age to learn the skills of reading and writing, starting with the alphabet.
