In The Audacity of Indifference Alex undertakes a journey to understand not only why his mother abandoned his family in his youth but also how she was capable of doing so. Sadly, many children grow up in a single parent family but normally it is the mother who remains. The author was forced to grow up fast as he did so mostly with the absence of his mother while also being raised by a father who struggled with alcoholism. In spite of and perhaps in many ways because of the difficulties from his youth, Alex was able to parlay his childhood adversity into a successful career as a Paramedic. Now Alex has decided to share an intimate no holds barred look into his life with a compilation of stories from both aspects that have helped to shape him. Alex was once a boy with "a mother size hole in his heart" that had to learn to fend for himself. Now he is a man that battles against circumstance and fate as a Paramedic.

About the Author

"Alex C Hernandez, Sr. was born in Hammond, Indiana. His family resided in Chicago, Illinois at the time where both his parents were also raised. Alex was raised in Southern California where he still resides with his wife Melissa. He has two children from a previous marriage and a stepson. He also has one grandson making him a proud and loving grandfather. 
Alex has been working in emergency medical services for a total of 17 years. He initially became a EMT in 1996. After a relatively short stint he left to join corporate America where he pursued a career and an education. Alex obtained a Bachelors in Business Management, a Bachelors in Business Marketing, and a Masters in Business Administration. Alas, Alex returned to his first love, which was emergency medical services in 2008. Alex still actively works as a Paramedic for a company in Palm Springs, California. Alex is also an instructor in conjunction with the American Heart Association where he teaches multiple disciplines including, but not limited to Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Basic Life Support. Alex also participates with teaching Neonatal Resuscitation. Alex also was recognized as a HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) Hero award winner for his tireless efforts with community service where amongst other things he taught Hands Only CPR to thousands of students within the Coachella Valley communities. 
The Audacity of Indifference is Alex’s first novel which is volume 1 of a planned two part series. While this is his first published novel Alex has been writing throughout his life and enjoys it immensely. "
