What a thrilling, sweet little novella. It dips in and out of 1961 Berlin, and present day Chicago, complete with a (sort of) runaway bride. Told from Jack's point of view at first, he feels somewhat guilty because he "taught" Clara how to time slip; it almost killed her before, and may be about to do so again. Clara, on the other hand, is dismissing her travels as simply very vivid and strange dreams. Can they figure it out - in time? Disclaimer: I am personally acquainted with the author and received a free copy of this work. This couple is a little older (early twenties) than the ones in the other Mortal Time Travel series, but there is still no explicit sex, so if you came here looking for that, you'll be disappointed. It has been a long time since I read those stories, so 1) This works fine as a stand-alone, and 2) features a new couple (or, at least, a couple I did not remember "meeting" previously). Page turner. Short and fast-paced. Recommend.

I wasn't ready for the book to end! The building connection between Jack and Clara pulled me into this new segment in the Messenger saga. The double tension of the historical time period of the message and Clara's slow discovery of her role as a messenger keep the reader riveted from beginning to end. If you haven't read any of the earlier ones I recommend doing so before reading this one. Pamela DuMond provides all the background a new reader needs to understand the roll of a messenger, seeker, and hunter but I believe that the more fully developed book The Seeker would provide a deeper understanding going into the tale; the beginning of the The Believer may feel a bit fragmented until more of the store is revealed unless the reader is prepared for the time shifts that a messenger experiences. On the other hand, the shifts that we experience through the changing viewpoints provides a great connection between the reader and Clara as she experiences the time shifts.
