The novel is interlaced with many interesting historical facts including references to the role of the Hussars horse regiment in the Napoleonic wars, Astley’s Amphitheater which is considered the first modern circus arena and the theater scene in London at the time. The Earl even presents his lady with a gilt-edged copy of Pride and Prejudice which was published in November 1813.
