The Bite Of Winter by Lauren Smith is a paranormal romance. This is a fairly short read, perfect for those with limited reading time. It is a M/F/M menage book though, so it may not be for everyone. Ms. Smith has delivered a well-written book. The characters are fantastic. Zoey has lost everything, she's homeless, jobless and broke. Ian and Connor are best friends...and vampires. Their story is loaded with drama, humor and melt your e-reader heat. I enjoyed reading The Bite Of Winter and look forward to reading more from Lauren Smith in the future. The Bite Of Winter is book 1 of the Love Bites Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This story was amazing and I loved it! However, I think its a bit rediculous to pay $5 for a book that's only 95 pages in actual length. Also, the story isn't complete. There is history and characters brought up that don't come in to play. Its almost like someone accidentally released 1/3 rd of the book. I would have loved to know what came next. Generally $5 books are 300 pages or more

The Bite of Winter is an interesting combination of two super-hot vampires, sexy fun times, an erotic love triangle, and a sweet romance, all set during the Christmas season. When presented that way, I wouldn’t expect it to work. Yet Smith combined all those elements with a sad but sassy heroine and created a novella that I not only enjoyed immensely, but left me hoping that the next book in the series (and thank you for making this a series) will bring us more of the trio’s story. Smith paints a very moving picture with the first scene of the book in which we meet Zoey, feel her hunger and depression due to her homelessness, and feel it all stripped away when she is attacked and fatally wounded by a would-be mugger, all within a matter of pages. As fate would have it, Zoey’s attack caught the attention of an almost 200 year old vampire who hasn’t been moved by humanity since his mortal mate was murdered 90 years ago. But something about Zoey calls to him and he takes steps to prevent her death without turning her into a vampire – a fact she is unaware of at the time. But her ignorance of his true nature is quickly shattered when his best friend and the man he considers a brother comes home expecting dinner and assumes that’s what Zoey is. Despite her fear over learning vampires are real, Zoey finds herself attracted to both Ian (her rescuer) and Connor (the diner) and finds herself unable to resist their attentions – and I can only say “THANK GOODNESS!” for that because that made for several steamy scenes between Zoey & Connor and Zoey & Ian and eventually all three of them. But when tragedy once again befalls Zoey, the men must make a life altering choice on her behalf or risk losing her forever. What I liked about The Bite of Winter is that while there is a touch of insta-love, the relationship starts with attraction and affection and it is not until Zoey is nearly killed that any of the three admit their love. Even then, the “true mate” aspect on the vampires’ behalf makes the short time frame (less than two weeks) reasonable. And considering the circumstances under which they met and the care, tenderness, and affection the men have lavished upon her, it really didn’t feel rushed on Zoey’s behalf either as this is a woman who has been starving for love since the death of her parents. In fact, more than once Zoey purposely achieves physical distance between her and the men to allow herself the chance to evaluate her reactions toward them to insure it’s what she’s truly feeling and not a result of their (unintentional) glamour. There was a thread within the story that was not followed up on as I expected it to be – a potential threat to Zoey from Ian and Connor’s past – and I can only hope that this means the next book in the series will be a continuation of the trio’s story. I shall have to wait and see. In the meantime, I expect I will reread The Bite of Winter this holiday season when I need a little something to warm me up. I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!

THE BITE OF WINTER is not at all what I expected, but then again, I never expected something as wonderful! Ms. Smith’s brilliant writing skills reign supreme in this book which is a paranormal romance, but with the elegance and style of historical romance. Ms. Smith never forgets that they are 200 years old, but they don’t feel out of place, they merely have retained their era’s manners, and yet the evolve in our contemporary world; nothing is stilted. It’s absolutely astounding how well Ms. Smith blends everything to form a superbly coherent whole. Ian one of the most romantic heroes I have ever seen; caring and gentle, while Connor is a tad more alpha but still as wonderful. THE BITE OF WINTER is one of the sexiest, most erotic books I have ever read; make sure to have something to cool off while reading, and yet it is also classy, sweet and very romantic. And the writing: O the wondrous, exquisite prose! I also love how Ms. Smith makes the insta-lust work, and honestly, I fell in book-love with Ian myself; he is positively irresistible! THE BITE OF WINTER is absolutely fabulous, and book two will never come out soon enough!

This is a short, seasonal story of a woman who has been dealt a really rough hand, plus two Irish vampires - one of which wants to help, the other one wants to help himself... to start with. The connection that comes alive with these three is almost tangible. It is a bond that starts with the familiarity of loneliness, and swiftly moves on to happier, more passionate feelings. The Bite of Winter is the first book in a new series that I am looking forward to reading more of. The 'black' character of Seamus surely has to appear in future books. For a hot book with a seasonal smile, I can surely recommend this one. * I received this book from Barclay Publicity in return for a fair and honest review. * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

4 out of 5 for this reader folks! That was a quick and yummy read! The Bite of Winter by Lauren Smith is the first book (novella) of her Love Bites series. Featuring two Irish Vampires and one lucky lady who is about to experience life in a whole new way, I have to say I was completely engaged in the story the entire time. Zoey is a little more than down on her luck. Living on the streets, feeling hopeless and struggling to make sense of what happened to her life, there is no surprise when she finds herself brutally attacked and left for dead. Ian cannot stand to see this small woman suffer. Out on the streets to feed, he finds himself wanting to save this wee mortal and decides to intervene and feed her his blood, healing her wounds. One small problem .. he can’t seem to leave her be, so he scoops her up and takes her home knowing he’ll have to deal with his friend’s wrath. Conner, harden with time of mourning and loss, is floored that Ian would bring home another mortal … especially after losing their mortal mate many years ago. Something about Zoey is calling to him however, and before he knows it, he is doing things he’d never thought he’d do .. again. Off we go in a menage romance full of fun scary vampires and one girl who seems to have hit the jackpot. Add in a dash of Christmas, danger lurking, true mates and some hot smexy scenes, and you are left feeling quite satisfied. I am interested to see where this series is going, and what is coming next. HAPPY READING! :)

nother fantastic read by the Fab Lauren Smith :-)). Book 1 in a vampire story A bite of winter starts off with Zoe outside a fancy restaurant. She's looking in the Window to all the food available. The waiter asks her if she's coming in since it is the Holidays (Xmas) once she says no he tells her to get away . She goes back into some trees away from the restaurant. She feels so down and out . No place to sleep . Food from a help kitchen and the clothes only on her back . A homeless man goes to her and asks her for her purse . When she tells him she has nothing that is where he attacks her . He sticks a knight to a few places . That is where Ian finds her and gives her some of his blood . He then takes her Home . Ian and Connor are living in the same house . They both are Vampires ( from Ireland ) . Connor thinks that Ian brought her back for a feed . That's not true Ian brought her back to save her. Thing is they haven't Turned her yet. Things progress so much that Zoe can't Imagine leaving them . She wants them both . They both make her body sing . It's Xmas and they go to a church for midnight mass . Ian and Connor are still in the parking lot ... Zoe is near the door where she spies a statue of a beautiful angel . She starts to cross the road to go into the Church where a car comes and hits her . She goes flying into the air and lands and she knows her time is up. Is her time up ? Once she crosses over does she she her deceased family ??? Do Ian and Connor get there in time and Turn her . It's a must get ... A true love story only the way Lauren knows how to write them , with Paranormal elements

The only thing I didn't love about this "The Bite of Winter" was that it was a novella. I wanted more! I wanted a novel with lots of Ian and Conner and their sexy Irish vampire selves! I really liked that there wasn't much shown of the bloody side of their vampire lives. Lauren Smith chose to focus on the other vampire "trademarks": the preternatural speed, the "glamour", being able to "influence" people, the ability to know someone from drinking or tasting their blood. As I said, this novella was short, that being said, the growth and acceptance had to be done quickly. And there was emotional growth, especially by the two men. There was a lot of passionate sexy times as well as tender cherishing scenes as well. Also there were instances that were really cute and funny, those where the kind of things that made me wish I had more time with the story line and the characters. Again, my only complaint about Lauren Smith's work is that "The Bite of Winter" wasn't a full novel. Giving Zoey more time, and scenes to acclimate to what Conner and Ian were. I wanted to see more of the sexual interactions and those relationships develop. Another thing I would have loved to be able to read was the reactions Ian and Conner had to experiencing daily life through the fresh eyes of Zoey. I think that would have made the ending even more impactful. Be that as it may a novella is what I got and I loved it! I know that because I wanted MORE!!! Zoey Blake is homeless and has no family, no money and only the clothes on her back. And no clear path to getting out of her situation. She is attacked by another homeless man, but a beautiful stranger rescues her at the last possible moment. This beautiful stranger, Ian, is more than she ever expected. He has a roommate as well, Connor, his best friend. The relationship between the two men is a difficult one. They have been growing apart since the murder of Ian's soulmate. Zoey is the key to bringing them back together or at least Ian thinks she may be. He is inexplicably drawn to her, This story, while not very long, is very intense! The feelings Zoey brings out in Ian and Connor are primal and unstoppable. Ian feels the need to protect Zoey from everything that has ever hurt her and both he and Connor want to show her what real love is. They have vast experience beyond mere mortals. They are both century old vampires! Really great writing! Lauren Smith brings out the emotions so well in her writing. Not blatantly, but very subtle. You don't even realize you are that into the story until it's over and you feel lost. I felt for Zoey, Ian, and Connor. They are all battered and bruised. Even immortality can not protect the heart! But together maybe they can help each other heal? Fantastic story!! And Oh So HOT!!! *Courtesy Copy*

4 - "You still have a story to live." Stars! If you are looking for a charmingly sexy, quick PNR read with a little Christmas glitter and sparkle, then The Bite of Winter is an excellent contender for that area. I am a big fan of the authors writing style, and once again she has delivered a really enjoyable and deeply layered read, even though this is essentially a novella everything is fully fleshed out and detailed. Too many years had passed since he’d looked upon mortals as something other than… I am not a huge reader of ménage, no particular reasons as to why, it just never really floats my boat, I suppose I do look for a connection between the characters in my romantic reading, and I find ménage more titillating, than offering any real depth, but rather than going down the full-on erotica route with this one, Lauren put three people together, and gave me a sensual and emotive read. ”Let me kiss you. Just one kiss. I want to remember… It’s been so long.” I found the story to be more about loneliness and its effects on a person and how by coming together, Ian, Zoey and Connor find what has been missing from their lives. There is a certain vulnerability from all three of them for various reasons, and I really liked that Lauren took the time to build the connection up between the three of them, this is sexy, but not full of sex, however what there is beautifully written and fits in well with the overall pace of the story. ”I want to keep you… Keep you and never let you go.” As the beginning of the Love Bites series Lauren, has set the scene for future books really well, and I look forward to seeing where the story takes us. ARC generously provided by the author, and it was a pleasure to provide the above honest review.
