About the Author

Cynthia Johnson-Smitherman can be described as a
mother, a human rights advocate, who is focused, ambitious,
successful, and incredibly inspiring. She was born in
Bloomington, Indiana, and raised and educated in South
Bend, Indiana. As an African American growing up in an
Irish, Catholic, and Polish-dominated city, she experienced
the full range of discrimination, colorism, and acceptance by
diverse cultures and races.
Cynthia has been a licensed real estate broker and
owner of Emage’ Fine Properties, LLC, and Emage Interiors
for over 20 years. She has been honored and recognized by
business and professional organizations for her leadership
and community involvement. She also authored another
book titled A Thief in the Dark, which addresses smoking
cessation and how to live your life without cigarettes.
Cynthia and her husband, William, live in Chandler,
Arizona.
