The Christ Box

Rumors have spread about a mysterious, ancient box said to have been passed down through several generations of an elderly woman living in Jerusalem who supposedly used the box, or perhaps its contents, to heal a friend on her death bed.

Rumors also claim the box was made by Jesus Christ when he was a young apprentice carpenter more than two millennia ago. News that something made by the very hands of Christ might still exist in the world and could possibly have miraculous properties fuels rumors to a frenzy.

When the Jerusalem Police refuse to dispatch an officer to look into threats made against the woman by a low level Israeli antiquities bureaucrat who claims she stole it from a museum lockup decades earlier, her son, an NYPD detective-turned-attorney, flies to Israel to protect his mother from powers amassing against her, and to get her and the old wooden box to safety.

All the while, a new romance between him and his co-counsel, a smart young lawyer a decade younger, grows—and then shatters when he discovers she's not entirely who she says she is.

The increasing furor surrounding the box tests his determination not to allow incidents in his past to crash him headlong back to the man he once was: a former cop willing to break the law to protect the innocent…and wreak havoc on the guilty.

About the Author

Author M. Rutledge McCall is one of the most prolific, widely endorsed ghostwriters and developmental editors in America. His first book, Slipping Into Darkness, was published and then optioned for film by David Sacks, Co-Founder and former Chief Operating Officer of PayPal. McCall has been featured on TV shows such as NBC Today, BBC News, PBS, CNN News, KNBC News' Nightside Cover Story, PBS/KCET's Life And Times: Thinkers, Shakers and Newsmakers, Larry King Live, ABC News 9 Australia, and others.

In the wake of the success of McCall's first book, Slipping Into Darkness, a narrative nonfiction treatise on modern street gangs, he created a busy and successful ghostwriting career. He writes in nonfiction and fiction genres for a high-profile clientele that includes major book publishing companies, university presidents, elite athletes, members of the armed forces and law enforcement, theologians, investors, celebrities, scientists, business owners, tech entrepreneurs, CEOs, international thought leaders, Ph.D.'s, Fortune 200 executives, neurosurgeons, and many more.

McCall also served for several years as CEO of a boutique Los Angeles-based literary career consulting firm, representing published authors and writers. Prior to that, he worked as Managing Senior Editor at a niche traditional book publisher. Earlier in his career, he worked in the one-hour drama writers departments for most of the American television networks and in production management for many of the major US film companies, on some of the highest-grossing movies and top Nielsen-rated one-hour drama TV shows.
