Hope to see Octavia and Alonzo again. It was hard to put down.

Utterly colorful, vivid and imaginative, The Clockwork Crown is a steampunk fantasy unlike any other. The best I can describe The Clockwork Crown is a mix of steampunk, magic and religion. You have the religious zeal of Octavia, the magical healer, who is surrounded by a world of mechanics and political machinations.  There is also a slow and lightly touched romance between Alonzo, the assassin and Octavia, the healer. As the second book in this duology, The Clockwork Crown does bring the tale to an expected conclusion. I am a huge steampunk fantasy fan and this story has all the makings of an amazing read but it just didn’t hold me. It has lots of action, plenty of mechanics and machines and creativity off the characters but I think, what I like to call, the “woo woo” aspect disconnected me from the story.  I received this ARC copy of The Clockwork Crown from Harper Valley in exchange for a honest review.

Very nice round-up, open to possibilities for future books.

Clockwork Dagger was an excellent contribution to the Steampunk genre. Beth Cato created a world that feels as real as our own; a world that she filled with fantastic characters. Octavia loses her family at a young age and is doomed to live her young life on the streets until Ms. Percival takes her in and trains her as a medician (healer.) Once of age, Octavia helps to heal soldiers of both sides at the front. She eventually takes a job in a small town and this book takes place on her journey to that town but her trip doesn't go smoothly (what kind of novel what it be if everything went well) and she is saved and saves a steward on the airship on which she is travelling. The characters, plot, and world are fantastically rendered in this first book in the series. I absolutely loved every minute. I am glad that I didn't read it until there were two books out. Now, to start the second.
