About the Author

Robert J. Cain received his undergraduate education at Wake Forest University and his doctorate in history from Duke University. After teaching at Wake Forest and Acadia University, he became resident researcher in London for the British Records Program of the North Carolina Colonial Records Project. He was the editor of The Colonial Records of North Carolina from 1975-2001.
