Lilyfield Bog

A booloop enjoys a peaceful start to the day, perched up in a Twillaby tree. Anticipating a tasty lunch with friends ("berrybud jelly, oh happy belly!"), he tumbles into more adventure than he had counted on. Leisurely strolling to lunch with his friends, the booloop narrowly escapes being lunch for a lurking wood fox. The booloop dodges her pounce by racing through brambles, skittering around sticker bushes, and vaulting across rocky terrain. Thorns clutch at his clothing and grab his hat. He arrives "uncommonly worn and tattered and torn" and badly in need of a rest. But when his hostess calls everyone to come to the table the booloop is happily prompt to respond.

The adventure continues in Patricia Black's second book! Just like Twillaby Pond, Lilyfield Bog is full of entrancing creatures like the whistling skitterwraiths, wiwisties, and our protagonist: the tree-climbing booloop. Patricia immerses us in a fantastical world, and we happily settle in for the journey. Her innate wit and linguistic brilliance shines throughout this tale of expedition and friendship. This is one you'll want to return to again and again, as it implores you to say "Hello to the day! Let's see what it brings!"

About the Author

Patricia taught English in Italy, was editor of Ohio University Publications, worked as a travel agent and drove a bookmobile. Now she writes poems, does beadwork, gardens, and edits academic papers for international students. She is a member of the Athens Poetry Group, the PentaPoets online poetry group, the Evening Poets, and the Ohio Poetry Association. Her poems have appeared in Common Threads and in the Ohio Poetry Association's juried anthology Everything Stops and Listens. She has been a featured reader in Ohio in Athens, Cincinnati, Columbus, Coshocton, Marion and Wooster. She lives in Athens, Ohio.

Hannah Sickles was raised in Athens, Ohio, alongside her twin sister. She has learned most of what she knows from her mother, who spent years studying fine art. Still residing in the foothills of Appalachia, Hannah has her own business working with watercolors and creating copper enamel jewelry. Besides illustrating and fine art, Hannah could be found making theater magic with ABC Players, or maybe playing yard golf in Zaleski forest. Hannah finds inspiration from nature, her two orange cats, and a group of amazing friends.
