Overview

The fourth book in a series about scientific wonder. Dreaming, daring, thinking, and doing. For little researchers ages 6 years and up.

The early nineteenth century. Mary Anning is only twelve years old when she discovers her first dinosaur skeleton while looking for fossils to sell. It isn’t just any skeleton; it’s the first almost complete Ichthyosaurus ever found. Over the next few years, more dinosaurs follow. Although Mary doesn’t get admitted to a university, her research would later form the basis for developing the theory of evolution, which made Mary one of the most important paleontologists in history.

About the Author

Jan Leyssens (°1987) is a designer, dreamer and the father of two children whom he constantly bothers with – according to himself – interesting facts (and fabrications) about the world, the universe, and the human being as one of the most fascinating animals on our planet. When in September 2017 TEDxAntwerp asked him on stage, he chose not to talk about his profession as a designer and entrepreneur. Instead, he talked about the stories he tells his kids, not about knowing stuff, but about the drive to discover and learn new things. The reactions to the talk were so positive, he decided to write down the stories. Stories inspired by the curious way kids look at the world, and the part before knowledge becomes knowledge.

Joachim Sneyers loved drawing aver since he was a toddler. He studied for 4 years at Sint Lucas Antwerp and graduated with a Master of Arts. His master project was a bestiary, a 50 page A3 book about non-existent reconstruction drawings with accompanying texts. Afterward, he took a short break and was given the opportunity for a solo exhibition in the Sharpoord Cultural Center in Knokke-Heist (SEAS) and a little later came across author Jan Leyssens, a native of Ghent who wanted to work with him. They are both interested in science. So he ended up at Clavis where they are now working on the non-fiction book series "Marvelous But True" for children.
