The Elvis Bird
Benjamin Miles - please don't call him Benjamin - is chasing a bird that hasn't been seen in seventy years - the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. Finding this bird has become something of a passion with Miles. After all, his reputation as a Cornell ornithologist is on the line.

Working late in his audio lab, he hears a human conversation on a wildlife recording made by colleagues in the Okefenokee swamp. The conversation ends abruptly with a gunshot and a splash, and Miles immediately suspects murder. Curiously, no one has been reported dead or missing.

When his mother is suddenly hospitalized, Miles hops on the next plane south to Folkston, Georgia, gateway to the Okefenokee, to provide care for his mother, investigate the possible murder, and join his colleagues in the search for the Elvis bird.
